DEAR STACY: Is it true Whoopi Goldberg is a great-grandmother? How can that be? — Leigha T., Clinton, Iowa
DEAR LEIGHA: Yes, it's true. The 58-year-old Oscar-winning actress and "The View" mainstay's granddaughter Amarah Dean gave birth to a girl, Charlie Rose, this past March. "It's kind of a little freaky, but I have a 25-year-old granddaughter, so it's not as surprising as it would be," she told me. "My daughter was very young when she had her daughter, so it's sort of balancing now. It's sort of balancing out. But it's kind of funny. I was a grandmother from the age of 33. When you look at it that way, it makes sense." Whoopi gave birth to her daughter, Alexandrea, at age 17.
DEAR STACY: We would like to know how Jimmy Fallon is doing in the late night ratings race? — Beverly P., Warren, Ohio
DEAR BEVERLY: Fallon launched his "Tonight Show" tenure with skyrocketing ratings — up around 35 percent in the 18-49 demographic compared to last year — and continues to eclipse the competition with more than double David Letterman's audience and even more of a margin ahead of Jimmy Kimmel's. Fallon's "Tonight Show" reruns also typically best original shows by, well, everyone else. However — and this is an interesting point as reported by Variety — Fallon's audience is mostly young viewers who are new to the time period. He hasn't taken viewers away from Letterman and Kimmel; their ratings have not taken a dive. Of course, more big changes will be in store, no doubt, once Stephen Colbert takes over from Letterman next year.
DEAR STACY: I like the show "Pawn Stars," and I'd like to know if Chumlee is related to the other guys. — Steve H., Albuquerque, New Mexico
DEAR STEVE: No, the portly fellow known as Chumlee on that History Channel reality show is actually named Austin Russell, and he is not related to "The Old Man" Richard Harrison, his son Rick, and grandson, "Big Hoss" Corey. Chumlee and Corey are said to have been childhood pals.
DEAR STACY: What is Stephanie Zimbalist up to? I was sad when her father passed away earlier this year. — Diane K., Austin, Texas
DEAR DIANE: She continues to act, mostly in theater and not with as high a profile as in her heyday as Laura Holt on NBC's "Remington Steele." This summer, she's been performing in the comic drama "Three Viewings" in upstate New York. Never married, she has been linked with director Peter Medak.
