1. The Chrism Mass is celebrated once a year on Holy Thursday. What is special about the Chrism Mass?

2. This is the only day of the year when the Catholic Mass cannot be celebrated. Name the day.

3. Eleven states and two U.S. territories observe Good Friday as a holiday. Name them.

4. Pope John Paul II served as the Bishop of Rome and the leader of the worldwide Catholic Church for close to 26 years. There is only one other pope who has served longer. Name the longest serving Pope, and for bragging rights, the dates and length of service.

5. Catholics observe seven sacraments, which are religious rituals believed to be commanded by God and effective in conferring grace on the believer. They also observe seven capital sins. Can you name all of them?

Answers

1. During the Chrism Mass, the priests of each diocese gather with their bishop to consecrate holy oils (Chrism), also known as "myrrh" (myron).

2. Good Friday, the Friday before Easter.

3. Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, New Jersey, North Carolina, North Dakota, Tennessee, Texas (optional), U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.

4. Pope Pius IX, who served more than 31 years from 1846 to1878.

5. The seven sacraments are: Baptism, Eucharist, Reconciliation, Confirmation, Marriage, Holy Orders and Anointing of the Sick. The seven deadly sins are pride, covetousness (also known as avarice or greed), lust, anger, gluttony, envy and sloth.
