The Age-Old Question

By Jenny McCarthy

May 20, 2014 2 min read

Dear Jenny: I hit on this hot waiter at a restaurant and gave him my number. He texted me to go on a date, and then I found out he's 20. I'm 31! What do I do? Should I pursue it despite the age difference? — Anonymous

Jenny says: Girl, I like to go with the saying "age is only a number." I have met numerous people who are happily dating despite a large age difference, and I myself was in a five-year relationship with someone who was 11 years older than I am. It might feel more awkward for you because you are the girl in the relationship, and guys are usually the ones that are older. But who cares? Right now, it would just be a date. So don't create a story of a future that doesn't even exist yet. Just take it moment by moment.

The only age-gap problem I ever noticed would happen when we were driving together, and we would fight about which radio station we wanted to listen to. Other than that, enjoy the perks that come with it — of which there are many. And don't forget to have fun!
