Denim — our favorite must-have for every season — springs out of the blue this year into a wave of fresh candy pastels and beachy neutrals with a splash of white to lighten it all up. The jean scene is anything but boring. Give those skinny jeans a rest and refresh your wardrobe with one of these new denim trends this spring.
—The New Neutrals. White jeans have been a warm-weather staple for years. The Hollywood crowd popularized this casual classic on their yachts in the '40s and '50s. Today, the cool vibe is the same. This year, add some sand-washed desert colors to give your whites a break. Wear these new neutrals together in a color-block pant or jacket for a real "wow" factor.
—Think Pink. Another colorful option to wake up your blue jeans is pink. See denim in a whole new rose-colored way. From trucker jackets to mini skirts to boiler jumpsuits, pastel pink denim is a refreshing alternative to the traditional blue.
—Make a Wide Turn. Wide-legged jeans will also give your wardrobe a whole new look. Just as the wider flares were making strides on the runways, even bigger legs are now showing up, morphing into palazzo pants and culottes. Pair with fitted tops and vests to balance wider legs.
—Stay on the Straight and Narrow. If wide legs don't appeal to you and you just want to update the skinny jeans or stretchy jeggings you've been wearing for years, then stick to the new straight jeans in silhouettes that hark back to the '80s. These jeans are available in high-rise waists or low-rise waists, cropped lengths or longer lengths.
—Chew on This. Checking out your phone? Then you won't miss the trendiest detail on denim this year. Just look down. It's all about the hemlines: frayed and chewed up at 7 For All Mankind; fringed at Frame; feathered at Prada. Slits, ties and zippers are making hemlines, too.
—All Washed Up? Don't worry, the bleached-out vintage blues may be making the biggest fashion news this season — with the neutrals right behind them — but there are plenty of stylish options to choose from, including darker indigo hues. We have plenty of dressed-up possibilities.
Put denim on your spring shopping list and have some fun! There's something for every occasion.
