Ten Reasons Why Newt Gingrich Shouldn't Drop Out

Share Comment

10. It would be very boring. People would stop paying attention to presidential politics. Campaigns are unique learning experiences, as Professor Gingrich certainly knows.

9. He doesn't need his own plane. When you're running to make a difference, running to energize people, attract them to politics and stimulate a real debate, all you need is a plane ticket to a debate.

8. Without Gingrich, Mitt Romney will veer to the middle faster than you can say Massachusetts. Every time he starts winning, that's exactly what he does. Every time he starts losing, he remembers what party he's in. For conservatives, Gingrich is the last best hope of keeping Romney on their side.

7. Gingrich brings out the best in Romney. Really. Until South Carolina, passive and predictable didn't begin to describe it. The guy is finally going off script (Romney, I mean). He's actually learning to fight. A scripted bore is not going to hold a candle to Barack Obama.

6. Gingrich brings out the worst in Romney. For example, his taxes. Imagine those coming out, say, next October. Disaster. And worse, Romney explaining that of course he deserves to pay lower taxes, because unlike the rest of us poor slobs, his income doesn't come from working. The rule on bad news is always the sooner the better.

Without an opponent, we'll never know all the terrible things he must have done as governor of Massachusetts. Need I say the name that brings shivers to any Democrat old enough to remember? Willie Horton. Does Romney have one? Who knows?

5. Gingrich isn't running for Senate. He doesn't need the support of big-money establishment Republicans in the future. So what if they put pressure on him? They don't have any power over him. And as for the world of talking heads, he's already done that. The national stage commands more people than any talk-show studio. And if that's where he wants to end up, sooner is not better.

4. No young person is going to go out and pound the pavement for Romney because he inspired them to believe in something, because they thought one person could make a difference, because they felt they were joining a political crusade. If anyone is going to do that, it's Gingrich. Romney is Romney, Inc. No wonder he thinks corporations are people. He is one.

3. Maybe he's right about the moon. Who knows? Unless he stays in, it will stay a laugh line.

2. What would "Saturday Night Live" do?

1. It would be such a disappointment to all of us Democrats if he got out. Here we are, united and rooting for Newt. And with friends like us, who needs enemies?

This column and the most recent two other columns are a vivid picture of why Susan will never become syndicated and have access to more media. Her writing is sophomoric. Her thinking is small. She never has anything new to say.

Oh my, those silly republicans watching debates and deciding if the party should move right or center while democrats sit like smug fat cats because, after all, the incumbent has done so... the country is so...our standing in the world is so... Carter had democratic friends, too. Poor Presidents rarely get two chances. Self analysis and assessment are never apparent liberal characteristics, but the last general election casts doubt upon Democratic Party standing with people who vote. What goeth before a fall? Obama is led by liberals, a President is duty bound to lead the whole country. Estrich is taking a lot of pride in little enough accomplishment. Her party and her man have done a rotten job of unifying this country or setting it on a successful course. Debate that, if merely for needed mental exercise.

Susan,
The GREAT PHILANDERER was NEVER running for president......He was and is only faking a run for the presidency in order to enhance his future speaking fees and sell books. We now know that the MYTH that he was a great debater is just that,,a MYTH. Stiff and wooden olde ROMNERD proved that in the Florida debates. The Great PHILANDERER is great when he is beating up on some defenseless media guy or the media in general, but he sure is no real debater. Obama would have eaten his lunch and then whacked him with the lunchbucket. ROMNERD has been very polite to Newt in the debates and he still made him look stupid in Florida both in the two debates and at the polls.
It is sad that the Republicans have allowed THE GREAT PHILANDERER to take up so much debate space.....he has no rational ideas for how to solve the countries problems and that MOON COLONY idea would cost the taxpayers trillions of dollars........for what???? I am not aware of any strategic mineral on the surface of the moon and how would we get it back to the earth if there was??? The GREAT PHILANDERER is beyond crazy. He is especially crazy to think that honest moral Republican Conservative women will vote for him to take that German helmeted Manniquin bimbo to the WHITE HOUSE. What would we call her??? We sure can't call her First LADY. GO home Newt and take your baggage with you.

As the person before me said, Susan's thinking is small, and her writing is amateur. Also my 10 year old niece has a better grasp of politics. While I'm at it, Professor Gingrich? LOL.

Estrich says "With friends like us, who need enemies?" Many a true word spoken in jest. The better question for America in general is "with supposed friends like Democrats who need enemies". The answer is self evident it does not. As has been demonstrated in the years 2009-2011, the greatest peril to America, its freedoms, its values, its economy and its Constitution is a Democrat controlled House and Senate with a Democrat President. It may be that we shall never recover from the destruction already wrought upon us by obama, reid and pelosi et al.
PS. It is noted that the trivia king has re appeared with the usual bilge.

Has anyone else noticed he doesn't do his own fighting, but constantly relies on his lawyers to do his fighting!

I am a staunch conservative and do not agree with you the majority of the time, but you just hit one out of the park.
Right now I am not supporting either canidate but one thing about Newt is that he definately stands for something. Yes he does have a boatload of ideas and some are easy to pick appart but at least he has his own ideas. My main concern is what will Romney morf into if nominated and elected. Newt may be an over achiever but the constitution and congress will keep him in check.
