Dear Mark: President Obama is right to claim "executive privilege" and not release the Fast and Furious documents Republicans are seeking to incriminate Attorney General Eric Holder. The investigation by Republican Darrell Issa is nothing but an election-year witch hunt meant to bring down Holder and eventually Obama. There are more important issues facing the country, such as the economy, that the Republicans should be focused on. Why don't Republicans just get back to business? — Serious Sam
Dear Serious: Wow, I see you received your copy of the Democrat talking points. The Fast and Furious scandal is quite significant, but Democrats are equating the contempt vote with Bill Clinton's impeachment vote in order to diminish the seriousness of the charges against Holder.
Issa's charges should not be dismissed so hastily by those on the left. Unlike infidelity involving Monica's blue dress, Fast and Furious involves the murder of Bryan Terry, a U.S. Border Patrol agent, as well as the countless other killings of Mexican citizens at the hands of drug cartels using Fast and Furious assault rifles. Beware Team Obama — the American voter frowns upon cover-ups involving murder.
Dear Mark: That numskull Nancy Pelosi is at it again. She is claiming that the reason Republicans are charging Attorney General Eric Holder with contempt is to keep him from prosecuting voter suppression before the November election. Of all the harebrained comments from that woman over the years, this one takes the cake. How does she stay in office? — Pelosi is California Dreaming
Dear California: Consider whom she represents — the heart and soul of liberalism, San Francisco. I also think she knows where a few of the bodies are buried in Washington.
If Pelosi's claims are to be believed, that would mean the Republicans are more diabolical than anyone can imagine because the "Fast and Furious" investigation began about two years ago, before many of the voter ID laws were even in place.
(Cue the sinister music) Nancy "Drew" Pelosi is onto the evil plot of Republicans to suppress voters in November. By now, she probably knows that the real reason Sen. Jeff Sessions, Republican of Alabama, wants to means-test food stamps recipients is so poor and minority voters will be too malnourished to vote in November. Dang you, Nancy Pelosi and your big brain.
Dear Mark: While I agree with everything in your June 9 column, the more I read Dear Mark, the sillier the concept seems. The letter-writers are already right-wing people who already seem to be on top of the news, writing in to basically agree with you. You simply add one or two more points and there is no argument, discussion or learning taking place. — The Real McCoy
Dear Real: Believe me, I receive plenty of letters and comments from liberal readers, but more often than not they rarely want to debate the facts of my columns. They seem to prefer personal attacks with "colorful" language and no actual policy questions to discuss. Sounds a lot like the tactics being used by Democrats in Washington these days.
See if these sound familiar: Republicans want dirty air and dirty water. Republicans are against contraception for women. Republicans are against equal pay for women. Republicans want to suppress minority voters. These comments are not from far left kooks but from mainstream Democrat leaders like President Obama, Nancy Pelosi, Joe Biden and Harry Reid. Oh, wait, maybe these two groups are one in the same.
