Q and A

"The only time I got to ride a bike was in a commercial. My parents were afraid I would fall off a bike, scar my face and that would be the end of my career."

Having grown up in a small New Jersey town, Courtney did convince her parents to allow her to get a driver's license.

"I was only allowed to drive with in the city limits."

In 1970, she married Carl Desiderio. The marriage lasted eight years and produced a daughter, Jennifer. For many years the actress, once called daytime's sweetheart, nursed her mother 24/7 while she battled Alzheimer's. Pete Lemay's book "Eight Years in Another World" about his tenure as "AW" head writer suggested she was let go because she was not a very good actress and could not learn her lines." Several AW cast mates who worked with her said they never saw that.

George Reinholt died of cancer this November at 74. Reinholt got his soap opera start as Eric Fulda on "Edge of Night." He then spent eight years on "Another World." During his tenure at "AW" he and the show's head writer, Harding LeMay, and executive producer, Paul Rauch, butted heads. There were several times when Reinholt was so irritated by the writing that he threw a chair. Rauch wanted to find a way to get rid of him without having to shell out money for the rest of his contract. Reinholt gave them a way out. He posed for a Playgirl magazine centerfold. If you Google the picture you will see that nothing was revealed. There was that pesky morals clause in Reinholt's contract. What could be deemed immoral? At the time, almost anything and everything. Posing for Playgirl filled the "you broke the morals clause" description.

Since Steve and Alice have such a huge following on "AW" the folks at "One Life to Live" thought they could recapture the magic. Reinholt was hired to play Viki's long-lost brother, Tony. Courtney was Pat Ashley. The pair did not see the success the producers thought it would. After two years, Reinholt was written out. Courtney stayed eight years. Then Paul Rauch was named "OLTL" executive producer. Just before he came on, Courtney was let go.

After moving back to his hometown of Philadelphia, Reinholt taught acting. At one point he took out an ad offering to take women to bingo and other events.

"Many older women have no one to take them places and they do not want to go alone. It works out well for everybody."
