My mom, the late, great Rose, was a savvy businessperson, accomplished artist and also loved her soap operas. In particular, she was a fan of "Pepper Young's Family." She would watch while she would make a cherry pie — yes, she could also cook. The one thing she could not do was write. So, I took on that task. She gasped when she heard her soap was switching to TV. She almost went into mourning. The next day, she turned on the TV. There was her much-loved Young family. She was a bit shocked, as none of the characters looked as she imagined. Mason Adams, who was Pepper for several years, later played Charlie Hume on "Lou Grant." My mom also loved "Portia Faces Life," which paid homage to the person she was.
This week, "Days of Our Lives" has switched over to Peacock. The show's executive producer, Ken Corday, wants viewers to know the switch has many positives. " You will probably be getting more show content after February of next year because we don't have to limit the show to 38 minutes with 22 minutes of commercial time," he said. He calls those who say the show will be cancelled after that "bottom feeders." They thrive on turmoil. They have taped enough shows through this coming winter. Once they air, it will be new stuff. There are many exciting things in the new version. Like any good soap opera producer, he is not saying what. We can tell you that Mike Horton, once a key character, is coming.
Corday says the success of "Beyond Salem" was so well received, the network decided to put it over on Peacock. It will cost $1.99 a month for a year. For those not used to streaming, Bill and Susan Hayes — Doug and Julie — will explain how easy it is to stream. He also says while the technical aspect of the show was fine on network, it will be amazing on Peacock. Peacock also has lots of great other programs, including an exclusive continuation of the "Jurassic Park" series. The show is very important to Corday. While he loves performing and listening to music, his love for his parents was stronger. When they died, he took over the reins of "Days."
Trevor St. John, who played Todd on "One Life to Live," is joining "The Young and the Restless"' as Tucker McCall. Stephen Nichols, presently Patch on "Days," created the role. McCall is involved with many of the characters. He is Devon's biological dad; Devon always considered Malcolm his dad. He was Katherine Chandler's son and was married to Ashley. He also has an interesting past with Jack and Adam.
