Q: In your last gossip column, you said on "The Young and the Restless" Phyllis' son Daniel was coming home. I did not know she had a son. — Lauren of Spokane, Wash.

A: She does: Daniel Romalotti Jr., who has gotten out of more legal difficulties than Victor Newman. From murder to theft to vehicular homicide to underage solicitation, he always beats the rap. He cannot beat the rap for having a mother who can be very hot to handle. Phyllis does not just have the nickname "red" for the color of her hair; it's what she sees if anyone tries to create problems for her children. The last time we saw Daniel he came to visit his comatose mother in 2013. Needing to leave for work, Daniel signed over his guardianship of Phyllis to his half sister, Summer. Until last week his name was never mentioned. Come July 29 he will be back home and once again played by Michael Graziadei, who first tackled the role in 2004.

Even the character's paternity was dramatic. Phyllis claimed he was the son of rock star Daniel Romalotti, which was not true, even though his name was on the birth certificate. In fact, Phyllis was an obsessed fan who drugged Danny and claimed they had sex. They did not. At the time, Danny was with Christine.

Cassie had a crush on Danny, even though he was much older than her. One night she snuck out of the house to meet him when he was very drunk. She ended up trying to drive him home and got into a car accident. She died in the hospital from an infection. Grown-up Daniel will be stunned when he sees Cassie's identical twin, Mariah.

Daniel is a talented artist and photographer. He was raised at a Swiss boarding school. At 16 he came to Genoa City. With few friends his age, he gravitated to Kevin. At the time, Kevin was suffering from borderline psychosis, and his awful behavior seemed to stem from his horrific childhood. Abused by his evil stepfather, Kevin spent his youth setting fires, attacking young girls and creating issues for his half brother, Michael Baldwin. Then along came Daniel. There has never been a better friend. Ask Kevin, who went from town pariah to respected police officer.

Daniel is also connected to Kevin's ex-wife, Chloe, who is also back in town. He will most likely pay a visit to Paul. For the past few years Daniel has been living with Paul's daughter, Heather.
