"Days of Our Lives" will have sands slipping through the hourglass for at least 300 days. NBC has picked it up!

"With writing that manages to weave together Salem's history with current realities, Ken Corday and his team have ushered the show's legacy into a new era that resonates with both longtime and new viewers," said Bruce Evans, a programming executive at NBC, in a statement. "The actors and crew have such a tremendous respect for 'Days' and what it means to fans. We believe that level of commitment shows through and touches our audience year after year." After a few years of ashes, "Days" has been on fire for the past two years.

Last year, several fans were bamboozled with stories of soap stars in need of money. None were true. Sadly, this week, a plea for funds is true. Emme Rylan (Lulu on "General Hospital") told fans her sister, Lara Behrens, has stage-four cancer. Lara's husband Thad, alongside Emme, has set up a GoFundMe page. The money is to help Lara deal with the pain and perhaps get into a trial program. For now, she is on radiation and chemo to help shrink the tumors.

She was diagnosed in October of last year. As a restaurant server, she started having back pains. She thought it was from carrying trays, walking and being on her feet all day. The issues started in May. For months, she sought treatment — chiropractor, heat on her back, exercise. When the pain grew worse and her symptoms escalated, she went to a doctor and got an MRI.

Right after the procedure, he called her in and explained her dire condition. The cancer had spread from her back area into several of her vital organs. Her illness is not only physically and emotionally draining; it has all but drained her financially as well.

After lots of prodding, her family got her to agree to a GoFundMe. She has always been a giver — giving friends food when they were hungry, doing tons of big and small kindnesses for those she knew as well as strangers.

The original GoFundMe goal was for $12,000. In 48 hours, it garnered over $28,000, thanks to more than 450 donors. The account is still up at GOFUNADME LARA BEHRENS.

Emme has always very open on social media — for example, about the birth of her children. When her son ran into her and broke her nose, Lara even took before-and-after selfies. She felt that, having shared so much with her fans about good news, she should also share her sorrow.
