"THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS": The best and worst of 2017. The major problem with The Young and The Restless was the pushing of characters on viewers. Nothing against Tessa, but she was everywhere — moved in with Niki, dating Noah, singing at the club, a romantic interest for newly out of the closet Mariah. Nothing against the actress, but it was like being forced to become instant best friends with someone you sat next to on a bus. Here are the worst aspects of The Young and The Restless throughout 2017:
—The romance between Ravi and Ashley. A young guy goes from dressing like a mailroom guy to tuxedo-loving opera date. If Tessa was connected to too many people, poor Ravi had no one but his boss.
—The office antics of Jack and Gloria. The actors are amazing, but the plot made the duo seem like two out of control teens who could not put a lid on it.
—Getting rid of Graham, who was so delicious as the bad guy. But as of today, he is back and it is great. The guy is suave, possibly sadistic and easy on the eyes.
—Another makeup and breakup and makeup for Victor and Nikki.
—The sex ring. Such an important storyline was treated like a cartoon.
—Sharon and the latest love of her life; Dylan heads out, and in a nanosecond, Scott takes his romantic place.
There were also many great storylines in The Young and The Restless in 2017, starting with the acting, of course. Take Dina's Alzheimer storyline; the story about how to deal with Dina was on point. Bravo to Y & R.
—Bringing back charming side of Billy.
—Lily and Cane getting back together.
—And a speedier pace. For months it seemed as if nothing was happening and Mal Young took over and gave it a boost.
