Soaps will be taking a presidential holiday on Friday, January 20, as President-elect Donald Trump will be sworn in as the 45th President of the United States. The event will be televised live from the West Lawn of the U.S. Capital beginning at noon. "The Bold and the Beautiful," "Days of Our Lives," "General Hospital" and "The Young and the Restless" will not be seen. Not to worry — the soaps will pick up where they left off. As will the soap opera surrounding the 2017 presidential campaign.
Tristan Rogers (Colin, "The Young and the Restless" and Scorpio, "General Hospital) is always candid. This week, he took to twitter and asked fans to tweet questions. They tweeted and he answered. Here are a few tasty tweets from him. When asked what storyline he would want if Scorpio came back, he said anything that made sense. He doubted that story would happen. He also revealed that he and Emma Samms (Holly) dated for over a year. As for a resolution to the Holly/Scorpio affair, he said it would never happen — although he says it should. He also suggested he has not talked to Tony Geary (Luke) since he left "GH" and doubted they ever would. When Rogers first came on the show, he and Geary clicked. In fact, the Scorpio storyline expanded because of that. The chemistry did not last. To show you how good these two actors are, they pretended to be best buds while they almost loathed each other in real life. Rogers did have a happy tweet. He is headed back to Genoa City for a while. He loves working with Jess Walton (Jill).
Starting January 19, "Days of our Lives" will be airing at noon instead of 1pm in the New York City area. "Days" it is up for renewal on March 31. The show has episodes taped to air until June 7. The show has been on fire! Call, email, go on social media — Yes, these things work. Also all those negative "I am not going to watch the show anymore if..." statements take their toll. Almost everyone who makes those posts does not stop watching. How do I know? Because weeks later they are still offering the same spiel. It is like telling the kids in the back seat to behave or you will turn around. They know you won't.
NBC has signed Megyn Kelly for a talk/news show. No time slot or date has been set. Right now she has star power, as she was a big player at Fox and during the Trump campaign. Lots of bigger stars with long-term star power have failed at afternoon talk shows. I spent decades doing talk shows in cities from Cleveland to Baltimore. Most of the time I was filling in, while I did my entertainment gig. It is fun, but it is not easy to inform, charm and sell product. When it works, as it has done for Oprah and Ellen, it is amazing. I always want shows to work — so much work is out in front of and behind the scenes. I will keep you posted.
