Cosmic Squares

The Greek poet Hesiod said, "It will not always be summer; build barns." Try to store some emotional warmth up today. Capture it in a pic. Jot a note. Make a list of the things you can do to keep your energy, creativity and playfulness alive when things change, as they inevitably will as Venus squares Neptune and Mars squares Uranus.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). People feel comfortable with you. Maybe it's the way you kindly accept all the quirks. Your presence is easy. Your love is generous. Your moments will be full and vibrantly lived.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). Remember when you didn't go because you thought it would take too long to get there? This time, go. The time will pass whether you embark on the journey or not.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). If you're on the same team, you need to be on the same side, too. Don't let the spirit of competition get out of hand. Infighting will lead to the demise of the group.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). To do what is best for you is to do what is best for those around you. Ignore your own needs and it will catch up to the whole group. That said, there's a difference between good self-care and the indulgence of weakness.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). You could, alone in a room armed with determined focus, plan out your life down to the minute details. What's going to work better, though, is to get in motion and start making some mistakes.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). Usually when something is changing you, you feel it — and it's not usually a pleasant feeling, either. They call it "growing pains," not "growing pleasures." The pleasure will be in the privileges of being grown.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). Happy people bop along to the music, whereas sad people delve into the meaning of the lyrics. To be fully appreciated, the art (and life itself!) needs to be looked at from many different lights and moods.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). The best group will be a diverse group. It may take longer to work out the different roles and the balance of personalities, but once you do, the unit will be unstoppable.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). Many ideas will be bandied about. If you come to an impasse, take a break and then come back to it. There's more in the well. Don't stop until you find a mutually beneficial solution. It's the only kind that will endure.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). Beauty captivates your attention and leads it toward hope and light. You don't have to be looking for beauty to find it, but you do have to know it when you see it.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). Excellence is a mansion atop a long, sweaty hill. Getting to it takes great effort, but it's a lot easier because you can see the proud result as you step ever nearer to it.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). It's a very pleasurable thing to imagine an adventure and quite a different thing entirely to embark on one. Your spirit of exploration will be awakened and encouraged by fire sign influences (Aries, Leo and Sagittarius).

TODAY'S BIRTHDAY (July 17). There's a fire burning in you, in the form of a quest. This isn't so much about a project; it's more like a mission of emotion. You want to feel and experience deeper love, more engagement, greater excitement, and this will happen for you as you take risks with your social life this year. You'll be a different person this time next year. Pisces and Gemini adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 9, 20, 22, 28 and 11.

ASTROLOGICAL QUESTION: "This quotation has haunted me (a Gemini guy) lately, Holiday: 'Even after all this time, the sun never says to the earth, "You owe me." Look what happens with a love like that. It lights the whole sky.' — Hafiz

"Thoughts?"

The 14th-century Persian mystic Hafiz wrote enduringly popular poems of love, faith and hypocrisy. Though the beauty of his work cannot be denied, modern love is so complex that I could see how a poem such as this could hang up a Gemini guy's processor. Does this quotation give your mind the icon of a spinning beach ball?

To me, the problem is that the sun never did anything for Earth that it wasn't doing already, so of course the sun isn't owed any thanks from a measly little planet that can't help its complete reliance on a star. Any relationship with a power balance as extremely skewed as that of a solar power to its luminary is unhealthy and doomed inside the rules of contemporary romance. Bottom line: People who actually put themselves out for one another do have responsibilities, debts and their own system of accounting appreciation and gratitude to one another. Ignore this and the sky of the relationship will most likely light up in the manner of the sunset before the end.

CELEBRITY PROFILES: This Cancer crab once made a public request that we not "hassle the Hoff." David Hasselhoff has the hard shell that all moon children are born with to hide a sensitive emotional core that runs deep and thrives with equal parts excitement and quiet. Hasselhoff has Mercury and Venus in Leo, suggesting that when it's showtime, he can turn on a sparkling persona with the flip of a switch.
