A distorted sense of scale can be a destructive force in the world. It's harmful to exaggerate or diminish the facts just to win an argument or make things fit into a particular worldview. The problem can be avoided through honesty, reason and a sincere desire to understand the true value of things. The new Mercurian emphasis on empathy will help.
ARIES (March 21-April 19). You see when it's time to rebel. When the norms don't make sense, the popular opinion is clearly wrong and people are behaving badly en masse, nonconformity is a moral imperative.
TAURUS (April 20-May 20). When your loved ones get down and need encouragement, you have kind words to share. What are the words you give yourself, though? Are they anywhere near as kind? Can you shore up the difference?
GEMINI (May 21-June 21). Sure, life is complicated, but you don't have to sort it all out in a day, so relax. Your wish to be lighter and brighter, with more energy and optimism, can be achieved through a simple habit of focusing on better things.
CANCER (June 22-July 22). The first step is to build an image of what you want in your head. It's harder than it seems because what you don't want keeps coming to mind instead. So work on it. Make the imagined reality so big that there's no room for much else.
LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). Remorse can be a stage in maturity and growth, but only if it's a feeling that gets processed and moved through. Because you're loving, you won't let anyone, including yourself, wallow in remorse — not on your watch!
VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). Imperfection is ubiquitous. Of course a person can be ordinarily flawed yet extremely worthy of being cherished. So don't for a second think that care and kindness shouldn't rightly flow to you. Just accept it.
LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). Don't forget to bring your imagination, because the most important things about the situation won't be obvious, and imagination makes you sensitive to such easily missed details.
SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). There may be practical reasons that it's hard to find the right person for a role, but rest assured that there are also practical solutions you can employ to compensate for them.
SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). Creation is a manipulation of energy. You move one thing to form another, cut together concepts, change the context, bring together different elements — all in a day's work. You're in a flow now.
CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). There's really no getting around it. We have to be considered with compassion and perhaps a sense of humor to be tolerated over the long term.
AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). There's something to figure out, but you won't be able to, not completely. However, even just trying will engage the higher mental faculties that will get you in harmony with life.
PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). When people have similar gifts, they can be assets to each other — sharing experiences and knowledge or banding together to compound their powers. Or they can be competitive threats to each other. So go carefully. Read the room.
TODAY'S BIRTHDAY (Feb. 10). As the sun rocks your birth cradle in the sky, your personal life is illuminated with a brilliant warmth. New excitement overwrites old routines. There's a shift in how money comes to you as the world accommodates your creativity in new ways. You can afford to be fearless as you explore and invest in your talents. Leo and Virgo adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 6, 40, 28, 1 and 13.
FORECAST FOR THE WEEK AHEAD: Studies suggest that on average, people speak between 7,000 and 20,000 words a day. As verbal creatures, we rely on words and fall in love with them. We use them for work, as weaponry, as tools of seduction, as identity markers, as status elevators, as creeds to live by. We use words to diminish our enemies, celebrate our heroes, worship our gods. But even with their abundant usefulness, words are still not the main way we communicate. Our verbal language may be unlike the language of other animals, but our communication still happens in much the same way as our animal friends', through sounds, movements and energetic expressions that convey our intentions. Like a flock of birds that can take off in sync without having a discussion about it or a school of fish swimming to the next spot, we can understand one another without passing out a memo. We've done it for most of human existence.
As Mercury moves into Pisces, the empathy flows stronger, as does our sensitivity to multiple layers of meaning. We will be more keenly aware of unconscious signaling that we give and receive and may even consciously track minute details, such as microexpressions and scent. Because of this increased consciousness, relationships get more truthful, for better or worse.
CELEBRITY PROFILES: Elizabeth Banks has so many blockbuster hits to her name that her schedule is often filled with sequels to the biggest film franchises in recent history, including "The Hunger Games," "The Lego Movie" and "Pitch Perfect." Next up is "Charlie's Angels," which Banks also co-wrote. Six air signs dominate her natal chart, indicating a lofty IQ, though because her Venus is in Capricorn, she's modest about it.
