Who Can Take AOC seriously?

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has begun the process of freezing her eggs for future childbearing. Not only does AOC talk about it, she shares Instagram videos of her getting hormone shots in her belly.

AOC is 36, approaching her later baby-making years. Frozen eggs can later be fertilized with sperm in a lab to create an embryo that could be transferred to the uterus, the result being a child.

Surely, I'm not alone in feeling squeamish at references to AOC's reproductive organs. Many women have eggs removed from their ovaries for later use but generally do so in private.

"Can I afford it?" AOC asks in a Vanity Fair interview, implying she's a working stiff of modest means. For the record, egg cryopreservation typically costs from $10,000 to $20,000, and AOC makes $174,000 a year as a member of the House.

This is just the latest offering from AOC's assembly line of attention-grabbing show pieces, and grab attention they do. But are they helpful to a woman said to be contemplating a challenge to Sen. Chuck Schumer in 2028 or even a run for president?

Perhaps this public egg harvesting is intended to resonate with female voters. AOC has noted that women must make decisions about careers and children that men do not. That said, women in power do give birth, but they don't televise the process.

AOC has provided other social media fodder that won't appeal to normal Democrats, much less everyone else. She became a big supporter of the Democratic Socialist Darializa Avila Chevalier despite the candidate's call to open the borders, defund the police and empty prisons. And oh, yes, she also accused Joe Biden of being a rapist.

With the Democratic Socialists' roundup of young lefties who had recently moved into this majority Latino district, she unseated longtime Democratic Rep. Adriano Espaillat, who headed the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. The New York Post headline after the primary was "Wack to the Future."

AOC recently tried to laugh off the ludicrous positions of such left-fringe candidates as post-pandemic insanity. She agreed with a colleague's remark that "Woke 1 was crazy" and not representative of today's Democratic Socialists.

Thing is, less than two months had elapsed between AOC's reference to Woke 1 and her defending kooky Avila Chevalier from attacks by normies. "I went through the same thing," AOC told an interviewer. "I was met with so much hostility & cruelty by the Democratic caucus."

Also not universally admired is the picture of AOC swanning on the red carpet at the Met Gala's fashion blowout. AOC is seen showing off her lovely figure in a custom-made gown with "Tax the Rich" painted on her back and rear end.

That was influencer gold. People talk about it today. But do such spotlight-hungry antics look presidential, or senatorial? Love for AOC has been slipping in her own House district covering parts of Queens and the Bronx, witness her margin of the vote narrowing from 2022 to 2024.

If left-winger Abdul El-Sayed loses the Michigan senatorial race in November and that costs Democrats a Senate majority, AOC will have much to answer for. El-Sayed barely beat the very plausible Democrat contender, Rep Haley Stevens, for the nomination. AOC had pushed El-Sayed as "the strongest candidate to keep this seat in November" — a view not necessarily reflected in the latest polls that favor Republican Mike Rogers.

As for her eggs, AOC should do with them as she will. She can always find a sperm donor and put them to reproductive use. Of course, a U.S. House member's decision in this matter should be none of my business, but AOC has made it everybody's business.

And we can't unsee it.
