Wonder of the Water Trine

As Jupiter aligns with a grand water trine, nothing is exactly as it seems. So what? "Seems" is the only thing you have to go on. Since you can only experience reality the way you do, it may be pointless to espouse an existence that's different from what you can observe. And yet, something wonderful will happen when you do.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). If you see it every day, it's not strange — and if it's not strange, then it can't be beautiful. This is why updating your style or changing the way you relate to people will be worth the effort and expense.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). A messy room and an organized mind seldom go together, though the untidy person in your life will claim they do. Use negative examples as inspiration to get your own room/act/head together.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). If you accused someone close to you of being out of touch with what you need, you would be right. But what good would that do? Instead, don't make anyone guess. Say what you need.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). There are the people who say, "What can I do to help?" and there are the people who just get in there and help. The problem is pretty obvious now, so join the latter category.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). When the conversation gets awkward or boring, you will be aware enough to change the subject. You don't think of this as a talent, but you should. Your astute socializing will save the day.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). Of all the things you compare, comparing yourself to another person is the most unfair. You know all of your flaws and shortcomings; whereas, they are doing their best to mask theirs. Focus exclusively on being your best you.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). Go down the list of your many blessings, and remind yourself that your life right now is pretty great. If you don't appreciate your assets, it's impossible to present them in such a way that others will.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). You'll be meeting new people. The tone you set will be a starting place. If you start out too seriously, people will be frightened of what's next. That's why it's best to keep things light while making a first impression.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). To manage the full range of your emotions, you must first embrace the full range of your emotions. Losing your temper doesn't always mean you lose the situation. Some effectively use temper outbursts as a tactic.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). Change occurs because you focus all of your energy on building a new way of doing things. You don't have to waste time tearing the old way down. It will crumble on its own.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). If it is at all possible to lower your defenses while raising your standards, you'll do it. You have excellent taste, and what's even better is that you don't feel like you have to constantly prove that to people.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). If you do it first, you're the leader. Those who merely instruct others to do it first may have the title of "leader," but the one who will be respected and followed is the one who did it first.

TODAY'S BIRTHDAY (Jan. 7). The next seven weeks bring good fortune on many levels. In March, the restless spirit sets in, and you'll restructure your work to better accommodate personal interests. It's not leisure you're after, but adventure. And because you don't mind challenge, hard work and inconvenience, you will have the adventure you crave. Gemini and Libra people adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 13, 38, 40, 22 and 10.

NEW YEAR, NEW LIBRA: In 2014, those who want to make big changes will be cosmically empowered to do so. For Libra, this makeover energy settles into the area of communication. For starters, Libra may find that in the weeks to come an expanded vocabulary has worked its way into heavy rotation. These might be terms specific to work, tech terms or the language of a different country or culture. Some Libra natives will be inspired to drop a bad (but extremely common) communication habit, such as using the word "literally" incorrectly or saying "no problem" when "my pleasure" would be far more appropriate. "No problem," after all, should only be used in instances where there was an actual problem and not to answer simple requests that hardly could be classified as problematic.

Libra also may develop new personal rules about cellphone use that will add to this sign's already stellar reputation for class and good manners. Libra's natural inclination toward social grace makes this sign a trendsetter, and when others witness Libra giving full attention to one-on-one conversation instead of living like a walking split screen, they will be inspired to follow suit.

CELEBRITY PROFILES: In 2013, Academy Award-winner Nicolas Cage played an Alaska state trooper, an ex-con and a cowardly Neanderthal. This year brings more adventures for this prolific actor, who, true to his Capricorn nature, thrills to the challenges of work. Cage was born when communication planet Mercury and passionate Mars were also in Capricorn, signifying an indomitable will.
