In 1945, as prime minister of South Africa, Smuts signed the Paris Peace Treaty, marking the end of World War II. He's the only person whose signature appears on both documents. He's also the only person to have signed both the charter for the League of Nations in 1918 and the charter for the United Nations in 1945.
