With the decision as to the constitutionality of Obamacare now in the hands of the Supreme Court, the issue of fairness once again arises. Liberals whine that life is not fair because some people have health insurance while others don’t.
President Obama and the Democrat Party are using fairness as their re-election theme, but where does it say that life is fair? The Bible — no. The Constitution — no. The Quran — no. Only in the Book of Liberalism does it say that life is supposed to be fair and that somehow government shall be the arbiter of said fairness.
The fairest moment of our lives is immediately before we’re born. On your birthday, you’re pulled out of a place that’s warm and secure, where all of your needs are provided. Some masked stranger slaps you on the butt, and you look back to your old home and realize the door has slammed shut. Right there is your first clue that life isn’t fair.
Those on the left believe it is government’s responsibility to make life fair. FDR’s New Deal and LBJ’s Great Society were supposed to eliminate poverty and create opportunity, yet we still have the poor and less fortunate. Even if Obamacare worked perfectly, millions would still be without health insurance, according to the Congressional Budget Office.
Trying to play the “founding fathers” card, Nancy Pelosi called on her fellow members of Congress to remember "what our founders put forth in our founding documents, which is life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. And that is exactly what the Affordable Care Act helps to guarantee."
Pelosi is clueless concerning the intent of our founding documents. The purpose of our Constitution is not to facilitate the “pursuit of happiness.” It is to prevent the government from infringing upon a citizen’s pursuit of happiness. Obamacare interferes in that pursuit by taking millions of dollars from one group of citizens and giving it to another in the name of fairness.
Funny how Pelosi ignores that the Declaration of Independence states that our rights come from our Creator, God — not some granite dome in Washington. The liberals’ pursuit of fairness doesn’t involve an all powerful Creator. It uses a self-absorbed egotistical group of bureaucrats to determine what is equitable.
In this case, fairness is the enemy of excellence. The liberal solution to fairness is to use other people’s money to bring down those on top, which in my mind makes us all average. America is not about “average,” it is about exceptionalism.
Society will be better the sooner we teach our kids that there will always be people who have better finances, who are better looking, more athletic and have more hair. So instead of taking the liberal path of envy, class warfare and government reliance, we need to instill the values of self reliance and personal responsibility. We need to show them we all have talents that can lead to our own unique success.
Life becomes more “fair” when we make the right choices. Pray hard, study hard, stay off drugs, don’t commit crimes, don’t have children out of wedlock, don’t run up the charge cards, invest wisely, and take care of your body. Oh, yeah, and don’t vote for Barack Obama this November.
Here’s some more proof that life is unfair. Tom Brady has won multiple Super Bowls. Harry Connick Jr. has sold millions of records. They’re both good looking, and they’re both married to Victoria’s Secret models. I’m just saying.
