SNEAK PEEK: A family reunuion

PRIME TIME

Netflix, gearing up for season two of "House of Cards," is hoping that President Obama will make a cameo appearance. Reed Hastings the of Netflix used a photo op to ask President Obama to appear on the show, in which Kevin Spacey plays a politico who will do whatever it takes to get what he wants. The offer from the Netflix CEO came during a photo op at the White House this morning — a little less than two months before season 2 of the show debuts — as Obama met other tech company CEOs and bosses to discuss the troubled Obamacare website and government national security surveillance efforts. According to the White House pool report, the president was overheard asking Hastings if he brought advance copies of House of Cards. The report adds, "the exec laughed and invited Obama to do a cameo on the series." The president also joked that Spacey's Underwood character is "getting a lot of stuff done" and he wishes "things were that ruthlessly efficient" in the real life DC. As for Spacey, I had a real-life encounter with him. He lived in the same apartment building as I in Manhattan. He was not there very often. One of the few times I saw him, his bull-mastiff whizzed in the elevator. The award-winning actor acted as if nothing happened. When your big pooch is releaving himself in an elevator and you pretend not to notice, that is acting.

Mega movie star Robert Redford is teaming up with the Discovery Channel on a scripted series about the end of the civil war through the beginning of the 20th century. Redford will produce and not act in the project. The program, set to air in 2014, is casting. The show will give the real story behind such iconic historical figures as Buffalo Bill, Jesse James and Crazy Horse. Redford suggests, while this period has been romanticized, it was also a time of blood, war and the shaping of the country.

Matthew Perry realized you've got to have friends to make a sitcom hit. Perry has seen that his two post-"Friends" show comedies only lasted a season. "Mr. Sunshine" and "Go On," starred and were produced by Perry. Perry has decided to go back to his "Friends" roots for a CBS series. The show will be shot in front of a studio audience and use three cameras. It will also deal with friends. These friends: Oscar Madison and Felix Unger from the hit "Neil Simon" play "The Odd Couple," which became the hit TV series. Jack Klugman played slob supreme, Oscar Madison. Tony Randall was Felix Ungar, his fastidious roommate. Go to Hulu or YouTube and watch episodes. It's a comedy show with laughs and heart. Perry is very jazzed about the project. He saw the movie that starred Walter Matthau as Oscar and Jack Lemon as Felix when he was 10 years old. Perry says he has always had an affection for the movie and television series and always wanted to play the guy who sees nothing wrong with wearing the same pair of socks for a month. As for Felix, who thinks socks should be ironed, the part has yet to be cast.
