LYNDA HIRSCH ON TELEVISION -- GOSSIP

Rose Marie, known as Sally on the Dick Van Dyke show, began her career as Baby Rosemarie when she was three with a voice that sounded like sandpaper. Many years ago I interviewed her, and she knows show business. During our chat she told me something I will always remember: "The public takes something from out of nowhere. They slap their picture on every magazine, newspaper and television show. They adore them. A year later they hate them for it."

Steve Harvey may be the latest phenom to prove this theory. From talk show host to game show host, to radio shows and talents shows, he is everywhere. For several years everyone wanted to call him "chum."

Things started sliding in 2015. The first was a mistake when he named the wrong winner at the Miss Universe contest. Mistakes happen and it was okay. Some fans were not happy when he took a photo embracing Donald Trump.

Now things have become dicey. With all the things he does, Harvey is a busy man. No matter how busy, the public must think you have time for everyone and everything.

Harvey wrote a note to his staff saying they cannot come into his office unless asked — if they do, they will be escorted out. No stopping him in the hallway. So far, no word on whether or not he can be looked at. Diana Ross and Tom Cruise have a "do not look at me" rule. Pilots in Cruise's private airplane may not glance his way. John Travolta, who is a sweetheart, not only lets his staff look at him — he will talk to them, just like a real person — which we all are. When his email went viral, Harvey defended it by claiming how busy he is. Cry me a river. Those pesky producers are the reason you are a success. Yes, it is your charm. However, it is the producers who book the guests, book the flights, read the book and give you questions to ask. I am certainly not Steve Harvey status, however there was a time when I wrote four columns a week, flew to three different cities to do six different TV shows and had a weekly radio show. I loved every minute of it and knew how much folks behind the scenes were responsible. From editors to producers to engineers, everyone was responsible for those days.

One of Harvey's former wives has slapped him with a multi million dollar lawsuit. Maybe she deserves it, maybe not.

The latest Harvey flap is not going to go away. Harvey is from Cleveland, (so am I — we have met, and he was always kind and always funny.)

So when the Cleveland Cavs lost last week, Cleveland went into mourning. A jerk called Harvey on his radio show and berated the Cavs. Those are fighting words for many reasons, not the least that Lebron James has done so much for this area that he truly is "the king." Just one of his acts of kindness: If a kid graduates from an urban high school in Akron, Lebron's hometown, Lebron gives them a four year college ride to the University of Akron and keeps in touch.

When said jerk made the negative comments, Harvey guessed he was from Flint, Michigan and told him to drink his "nice brown glass of water," and then hung up.

Harvey was referring to the lead in the Flint drinking water, which has caused much damage to Flint and its citizens. Just this week, four top-ranking Flint politicos were slapped with legal charges in the fiasco.

This was another stunning week on "The Bold and The Beautiful." Kate shot at Quinn — nope it was Sheila — wrong again — it was Deacon. Brilliant twists.

Note to "The Young and the Restless": it is not good when your minor characters like Zach and Dr. Harris Graham are more interesting than the ones like Tessa and Ravi, who became major in a nanosecond. It would be great if Dr. Harris came to Genoa city and romanced Ashley. It would make Victor very nervous since he bribed Harris to release Chloe from the institution before she was ready, which led to Adam's death.
