The sun has joined the party in Libra. Also on the guest list are Mercury and Saturn, mellowed by the temperate energy of this cautious sign. The sun carries over the thoughtfulness of Virgo into the Libran realm and adds a moral layer to the analysis. You may suddenly wonder whether what you're doing is good for you, others and the planet.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). Your finances beg to be addressed now. Spend some time sorting through them, and you're likely to come up with clever ways of holding on to more of your money.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). There are some people you don't have to know very long in order to be completely comfortable around them. According to the new friends you meet today, you're one of those people.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). You'll discover shortcuts to your goals. For instance, you don't have to leave the house to get in shape. A fitness guru can provide a serious workout for you through the magic of media.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). You respect people who take control of the situation, especially when it's a scene that's unfamiliar to you. Yes, you could just as easily be in charge, but you'd rather take a back seat now.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). You may be making a project more complicated than it needs to be. For instance, you don't need to set up a plan to get rid of what's bothering you. All you need to do is throw it away. You won't miss it.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). You have the sense that even though your plans were not executed in the manner you would have preferred at the time, you got something wonderful out of the deal, something you're still enjoying today.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). With the sun now in your sign, you feel the excitement of possibility at every turn. Also, you have the courage to venture away from your usual path. In short, it's a beautiful day.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). Solve one problem, and your life will be easier. Your success in this matter might tempt you to solve other problems, but don't rush into this. Savor the particulars of today's mixed blessings.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). You have a talent for choosing the right people to hang out with. That doesn't mean they are always easy to be around, though. Your friends will be mentors, motivators and reality checkers.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). You'll feel inclined to share your feelings as the moon beams from your part of the sky. It will benefit you to declare what you intend to add to your life — and to note what you no longer want.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). Engrossed in a main event, it will be surprisingly easy to forget the basics. In order to do what you do, you need to take excellent care of yourself. Otherwise, you're in for a counterproductive experience.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). Before you take someone up on the favor that's offered, you will wonder about the motives behind this kindness. More than likely, a sense of satisfaction and a "helper's high" are all that's involved.

TODAY'S BIRTHDAY (Sept. 23). You'll develop new rules to live by, as the old ones no longer apply. The whimsy with which you approach October attracts a fantastic friendship. November seals a deal. Travel in December and March will open different sources of income. February sees you investigating and developing a special talent. Aries and Taurus people adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 4, 14, 39, 20 and 11.

FORECAST FOR THE WEEK AHEAD: In Egyptian mythology, Anubis was the god of the dead and ruler of the underworld. He was an attractive enough specimen of manhood, notwithstanding his jackal-like head. Before a deceased human could float to Utopia or slink away to the Netherworld, it was up to Anubis to weigh all of the good and bad the person had done on Earth and determine the appropriate direction for the soul to travel. The scales of Libra are the mechanism Anubis would use for this judgment, or at least the constellation symbolizes the scales belonging to the Egyptian god.

The Greeks also have a legend for this part of the sky, involving the beautiful goddess Themis whose specialties were justice and law. Her sculpted image is a feature in many government buildings and Capitols, including the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., where she proudly upholds the scales of justice.

During this first week of Libra's reign, people will take out their moral compasses. Increased awareness is needed for decisions that may have been automatic only a week ago. You may find yourself weighing your options and measuring the pros and cons of decisions you used to consider "no-brainers."

CELEBRITY PROFILES: Jason Alexander's depiction of George Costanza may very well be the most memorable, loveable, hilarious, selfish jerks in television history. Alexander's natal chart suggests a far more giving character in real life, as Venus and Uranus in Leo is an indication of spiritual generosity. On his birthday, the sun was in both Virgo and Libra, so depending on his time of birth, this cusp-baby could go either way. Mercury and Mars in Libra lends intense artistry.
