(Part 2 of 2) for 12/01/2014 Mon, 01 Dec 2014 00:00:00 -0800
"God likes it when we do what's right because that is another reason to go to heaven," says Colton, 6.

Good works are never a reason anyone goes to heaven. Rather, they should be a result of trusting Jesus' work on the cross to pay for one's way to heaven. When you're the beneficiary of God's grace, you're positioned to bless others. Gratitude, not the guilt of trying to earn salvation, should motivate Christians to do good works.

Jesus offended people when he said, "This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent" (John 6:29). We so much want to contribute to our salvation. It takes humility to admit that our goodness falls far short of God's righteousness.
Updated: Mon Dec 01, 2014
a491bf5fe95a444f449aa92b4425f84a Why Is Doing What is Right Always Best? Parents also possess this same radar, as Katelyn, 8, can testify: "I was faking sick, and I got grounded for three weeks. I got in trouble with my dad, and that's bad."

Katelyn, your life will be much more peaceful and fun if you do the right thing. Take a tip from Keeleigh, 11: "If you do right all the time, you won't get in trouble, you won't get fussed at, and you will have more fun. That means you will make God happy and have a better relationship with Him."
Updated: Mon Nov 24, 2014
394d2f5b788897bb437125db98cd33ce Why Should We Give Thanks To God? for 11/17/2014 Mon, 17 Nov 2014 00:00:00 -0800
On Thanksgiving Day, families all over America sit down to dinner at the same time — halftime.

"Thanksgiving has two good words," says Hollie, age 9. "They are 'thanks' and 'giving,' and that's what we need to do — thank others and be giving. Those are two things my mom taught me."

Hollie, your mom has taught you well. Gratitude is one of the most important lessons parents can teach their children.
Updated: Mon Nov 17, 2014
62a19bb81f52a7a0ffd8ec814fc7e5a3 Who Is a Disciple of Christ? for 11/10/2014 Mon, 10 Nov 2014 00:00:00 -0800
"People will know that I am a follower of Jesus if I get caught doing good deeds," says Emma, 8.

Being caught for doing good deeds?

That isn't the way it worked at the elementary school I attended. But that's the policy instituted at Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy where Emma attends. When students get caught for doing something good, teachers send them to the principal's office. There they choose a prize from a treasure chest packed with all sorts of goodies.
Updated: Mon Nov 10, 2014
a077052cd9374d45457f497f1c649578 Why Has God The Father Given His Son Power Over Everything? for 11/03/2014 Mon, 03 Nov 2014 00:00:00 -0800
"Jesus deserves all the power," says Kianna, 9. "He died on the cross to save us from our sins. This is cool for me to believe in him. He created everything, so he should have power over everything. I think he totally deserves it!"

In the Apostle John's vision of heaven, he sees angels, living creatures, elders and a host of thousands united in a song of praise to the Lord Jesus Christ: "Worthy is the Lamb who was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom, and strength and honor and glory and blessing!" (Revelation 5:12).

The praise song continues with every creature in heaven and on earth united in song: "Blessing and honor and glory and power be to him who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb, forever and ever!" "We do this by finding pleasure in studying God's Word, learning about him and hiding God's Word in our heart that we might not sin against him."

The issue in all of life always comes down to this question, "Who is the center of the universe?"

If I'm the center, then everything must revolve around me. Living the self-centered life is difficult because I can't always get everyone to conform to my plan for their lives. It's hard taking the place of God, but many try it.
Updated: Mon Oct 27, 2014
b5afd53dcdeac4bde709e9a8c266992b How Do You Know If You're Going To Heaven? for 10/17/2014 Fri, 17 Oct 2014 00:00:00 -0700
"My grandma thinks I'm going to heaven," says Kole, 6.

Why is it that most grandchildren can't get enough of their grandparents?

Most grandparents are smart enough to just love on their grandkids. Being the light of the world doesn't call for knocking everyone else's lights out. Jesus had something different in mind when he told his disciples: "You are the salt of the earth" and "You are the light of the world" (Matthew 5:13a & 14a).

"I could give kitties and other things," says Brian, 10. But I'm glad this new feline friend has comforted your cousin.

Grandma left Olivia, 7, an incredible spiritual legacy in a simple act of faith on her deathbed. If you're puffing two packs a day, your throat and lungs may feel like fried bacon, but that's another matter.

One of the most troubling interpretations comes from Jacob, 6: "I would never give my sister my toy." God said blow the horns and crash real big, and he would give them electricity," says Weston, 4.

I'm sure Gideon and his band of 300 would be surprised to know they solved Israel's energy crisis in the late 11th century B.C. The problem in Gideon's day, however, was a spiritual energy crisis. God called the most unlikely man to lead a spiritual revival that began with the destruction of idols.

Dustin, 4, has another version of a Gideon lesson: "I learned you don't have to hit or fight. "On the seventh day, they blew their horns, and the walls came tumbling down, and they shouted. You can never keep God out of your house, even if you tried."

Unfortunately, Meagan, a lot of people try. "I think God gave us the Jericho story because he wants to break down the walls of our hearts and let himself in," says Jordan, 8.

To be honest, I've never thought of the Jericho walls in this way. Who hasn't constructed walls to keep God at a distance? Some even mock God when they feel he's circling them. As we're building our little forts to keep God out, he's smiling and waiting for the right moment to smash our "impregnable" defenses in ways that totally surprise us.
Updated: Mon Jul 28, 2014
942199bdbc0e4a050b0df3d0a0a1c88f What Did Jesus Mean When He Said, 'Knock, and It Will Be Opened to You'? for 07/21/2014 Mon, 21 Jul 2014 00:00:00 -0700
"I keep on asking my mom if I can play Nintendo, and she finally says yes," says Clyde, 7.

Well, Clyde, there's no doubt you've learned that persistence pays off.
