I have an excellent job and am not worried about being unattached. I don't date much, which is OK for now. My mother told her friend which days I had off so her son could see me. He called my mother, and she set up a lunch date for next week. Of course, I have to go.
Updated: Sun Jan 03, 2021
f4a18a5667977fec9c03eaeef7b2f491 Classic Ann Landers for 12/27/2020 https://www.creators.com/read/classic-ann-landers/12/20/classic-ann-landers-f15ac Sun, 27 Dec 2020 00:00:00 -0800

Editor's Note: Hundreds of Ann Landers' loyal readers have requested that newspapers continue to publish her columns. "Phillip" is a terrific guy except when it comes to my 12-year-old daughter, "Beth," who is very sweet but has attention deficit disorder. Phillip does not understand that she needs to be reminded of things over and over. When he asks her to do a chore, he expects her to jump to it immediately. He doesn't realize that Beth is easily distracted and forgets. She isn't being deliberately disobedient.
Updated: Sun Nov 29, 2020
4de5fc437a4ef1c170e4ac81db02b924 Classic Ann Landers for 11/22/2020 https://www.creators.com/read/classic-ann-landers/11/20/classic-ann-landers-15c7a Sun, 22 Nov 2020 00:00:00 -0800

Editor's Note: Hundreds of Ann Landers' loyal readers have requested that newspapers continue to publish her columns. Jim's first marriage lasted 22 years, and there were no children. Since his divorce (which was before I met him), Jim and his ex-wife have maintained a very close relationship. Last week, Jim lost a dear friend, whom I knew briefly. I comforted him as best I could, and he was most appreciative. "Jerome" has a 5-year-old daughter, and I don't know how much longer I can tolerate that child. She tells her father where to sit, where to stand, when to go out and what to eat. She walks around his apartment and insists on holding his hand, no matter what he's doing. She even goes to the bathroom with him. (He says she cries if he locks her out.) If she awakens in the middle of the night, he allows her to sleep with him.
Updated: Sun Oct 11, 2020
61e4540db986e880f6513ccd66e2ec76 Classic Ann Landers for 10/04/2020 https://www.creators.com/read/classic-ann-landers/10/20/classic-ann-landers-f9fa1 Sun, 04 Oct 2020 00:00:00 -0700

Editor's Note: Hundreds of Ann Landers' loyal readers have requested that newspapers continue to publish her columns. That letter could have been written by me.

You told the woman she had a "clinker in her thinker" for staying with him. My comment is, "Well, maybe yes and maybe no." Where I come from, marriage means a lot more than just sex. I was taught that marriage is forever. Also, it defines one's social status, not to mention one's income bracket.
Updated: Sun Sep 27, 2020
9fb25226f07ccafc69f76cde5f15ecbc Classic Ann Landers for 09/20/2020 https://www.creators.com/read/classic-ann-landers/09/20/classic-ann-landers-6d003 Sun, 20 Sep 2020 00:00:00 -0700
Editor's Note: Hundreds of Ann Landers' loyal readers have requested that newspapers continue to publish her columns. These letters originally appeared in 1999.

Dear Ann Landers: You asked your readers for their views on older women marrying younger men and vice versa. I was married for 28 years to a man my own age. He divorced me and married a woman who was younger than our children. Since then, I have dated men of all ages. The older men I went out with seemed to have no sense of humor and very little passion for life. Many wanted a nurse for their old age and treated me like a dumb blonde.

I am now dating a man who is 10 years younger than I am. He is confident and sure of himself. He is not controlling, jealous or condescending. We can be silly and laugh a lot, and we can also engage in serious discussions. Some of my friends assumed the only thing we had in common was sex. Others told me to be careful because younger guys are usually looking for a mother figure.
Updated: Sun Sep 20, 2020
dbaf5f085aca8e6f0f110f381d04ad3f Classic Ann Landers for 09/13/2020 https://www.creators.com/read/classic-ann-landers/09/20/classic-ann-landers-2c78e Sun, 13 Sep 2020 00:00:00 -0700
Editor's Note: Hundreds of Ann Landers' loyal readers have requested that newspapers continue to publish her columns. She appears to be in very good health. In fact, there are days when I think she may outlive me.

In recent conversations, Mom has made it plain that under no circumstances will she ever go into a retirement home. She says, "When the time comes that I cannot manage on my own, I will live with you." Ann, the thought of us living together is very upsetting. In fact, it's my worst nightmare. I love my mother dearly, but I must take time away from her every three days, or else we end up fighting.
Updated: Sun Sep 13, 2020
34377961fe6d9a14d928a5545d6ff969 Classic Ann Landers for 09/06/2020 https://www.creators.com/read/classic-ann-landers/09/20/classic-ann-landers-bbb02 Sun, 06 Sep 2020 00:00:00 -0700
Editor's Note: Hundreds of Ann Landers' loyal readers have requested that newspapers continue to publish her columns. These letters originally appeared in 1999.

Dear Ann Landers: I am at my wits' end over a situation that involves my wife, my daughter and my daughter's boyfriend. About 18 months ago, the boyfriend decided to start his own business. My wife, "Lynn," volunteered to help him set up the bookkeeping system and other aspects of the start-up. Now, Lynn is working more than 40 hours a week — for free. She is more committed to the business than he is.

We have discussed this issue at length, and Lynn says she enjoys the challenge and that I should "stay out of her business." She also says the company would fail without her, and I believe it. Meanwhile, I am working full time at a stressful, difficult job, and have to take up the slack at home, which means doing all the dishes, cooking, cleaning, laundry and so on.
Updated: Sun Sep 06, 2020
