However, it seems that when we look at either of these subjects at a basic level, it all comes down to body chemistry and how it influences us.

Beyond disease, when it comes to maintaining health, aren't our hormones and metabolism calling the shots? As pointed out in an article in the November issue of Men's Journal, if you start your day with poor eating habits, you are likely to end your day with an unsatisfying night's sleep. This is likely to be followed by continued poor eating habits the next day. This will affect your mood and energy, and make you less likely to exercise. In turn, you will be more susceptible to stress at work, which many folks treat with a few drinks and continued poor eating. It becomes a vicious cycle that can spiral into significant health issues.

Metabolism is a term used to describe all chemical reactions involved in maintaining body cells and the organism they support. Nutrition is the key to metabolism. The pathways of metabolism rely upon nutrients that are broken down in order to produce energy. Food provides a variety of substances essential to the building, upkeep and repair of body tissues, as well as the efficient functioning of the body.
Updated: Fri Nov 06, 2015
6b93308dc2c8bd8f48224c7c57851a50 The Defend Freedom Tour for 02/10/2015 Tue, 10 Feb 2015 00:00:00 -0800

Patrick Henry once said, "The battle, sir, is not to the strong alone; it is to the vigilant, the active, the brave." What's disgusting is that the eviction is engulfed in political moves to stop the church from meeting there.

Mt. Lassen Community Church started last Easter, spearheaded by some long-term residents and respected community leaders, including teachers, law enforcement, principals, business owners, community activists and our pastor and former chaplain.

They rented a county-run and taxpayer-funded public recreational building, built in 2012, to meet in for a few hours every Sunday morning. After two months of meeting there, they were blessed by being given (free and clear) an old closed-down theater building. But instead of initially moving the church services there, those church leaders, who loved their community and raised their families in the vicinity, decided to gift the old theater building's primary use back to the community. They created a separate nonprofit theater (Mt. Lassen Theatre) to help bolster the small town's flailing economy and encourage community involvement among youths and other local businesses.
Updated: Tue Jan 06, 2015
44c5978a37f6b3e35b1c3bf1eb632295 The Rest of the 'Unbroken' Story (Part 2) for 12/30/2014 Tue, 30 Dec 2014 00:00:00 -0800

Last week, I began to explain the spiritual power behind World War II prisoner of war hero Louis Zamperini, whose amazing life is retold in the movie "Unbroken." Fox News asked, "Where's the rest of Louis Zamperini's story?" As astoundingly resilient as Zamperini was, however, his real power was found in a fact underplayed in the movie; namely, he whose birth we celebrate Dec. 25 is the one responsible for restoring and transforming Zamperini's heart and life.

First, let me say, few lives can compare with Zamperini's. He lived hard from a young age. He smoked cigarettes by the time he was 5, and his favorite pastime as a youth was stealing beer from bootleggers.
Updated: Tue Dec 23, 2014
2e6aac54dfa4ca062f7522a6ef1427ee Masters of Deceptive Persuasion for 12/16/2014 Tue, 16 Dec 2014 00:00:00 -0800
Democrats are the masters of deceptive persuasion, meaning they will take our attention off something they have really screwed up and put it on something that's not quite so bad. I think I found it — or him — at Pearl Harbor, and just in time for its 73rd anniversary.

You know the history. On a quiet Sunday morning, Dec. 7, 1941, Japan launched a surprise attack on U.S. military bases on the Hawaiian island of Oahu. Two waves of 353 fighter planes hit military installments. The first was at Pacific Naval Air Base, destroying or crippling 36 seaplanes and killing or wounding 84 Americans. Seven minutes later, the Japanese hit Pearl Harbor, where 96 U.S. warships were anchored. All eight battleships of the U.S. Pacific Fleet were sunk or badly damaged. Amazingly, all of America's aircraft carriers were untouched. One hundred eighty-eight U.S. aircraft were destroyed. Of the 2,335 Americans killed, 1,102 were aboard the USS Arizona.
Updated: Tue Dec 02, 2014
afcff67acbb7ad78f2c471cbd733784d President Obama Versus George Washington on Thanksgiving for 11/25/2014 Tue, 25 Nov 2014 00:00:00 -0800
Last week, when "Fox & Friends" highlighted my most recent column, titled "Neutering Religious Holidays," liberals came out of the woodwork to try to defend President Barack Obama's record. So I decided to do a little research and see just how spiritual his past Thanksgiving addresses have been and compare them with the thoughts of our founding president, George Washington.

In 2013, Obama's Thanksgiving address didn't give a single mention of the Pilgrims, their Christian devotion or thanks to God. He did, however, share his gratitude for the Native Americans and their "generosity during that first Thanksgiving." He gave a litany of "we give thanks" lines, but none of them included faith.

In 2012, Obama didn't make a single reference to the Pilgrims, their faith, their God or his God, either. Instead, he explained that Thanksgiving is a nonspiritual day for his family and most Americans: "For us, like so many of you, this is a day full of family and friends, food and football. It's a day to fight the overwhelming urge to take a nap — at least until after dinner. And now California government officials are forcing churches and other faith-based organizations to fund abortions. What's next?

Thanks to the Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare), the California Department of Managed Health Care has required that all insurance plans in the Golden State cover abortions immediately. The kicker is that California churches are no longer exempt from providing such coverage for their employees — despite the fact that earlier this year, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Obamacare cannot force its abortion-prompting contraceptives down the throats of faith-based nonprofits.

Casey Mattox, an attorney with the Alliance Defending Freedom, explained the bizarre nature of this new California law to The Blaze. Churches "don't have to provide contraception, but they have to provide abortion." He explained in The Federalist that the origin for the decree was the American Civil Liberties Union's pushing California officials to reclassify elective abortion as "basic health services."
Updated: Tue Oct 28, 2014
9966180e2754fc4e6c9e14886908f92c Houston, We Have a (1st Amendment) Problem! for 10/21/2014 Tue, 21 Oct 2014 00:00:00 -0700
It all started in September, when Houston Mayor Annise Parker and City Attorney David Feldman issued an "overly broad" subpoena for the sermons of select ministers who opposed the city's equal rights ordinance. Because of intense national opposition from even Texas' attorney general, this past Wednesday, Parker and Feldman appeared to recant or at least reduce their flagrant overreach and disregard of the ministers' legal protections under the First Amendment. By the weekend, however, the truth came out that they were only using political smoke and mirrors to try to simmer the patriotic fury; they were not changing course to constitutional compliance.

At first, Parker and Feldman tried to fly under the radar by issuing the subpoenas to the five pastors because they have association with Christian conservative activists who are rightly suing the city over its claim that they did not have a sufficient number of signatures to put a referendum on the ballot to repeal the equal rights ordinance. (They actually collected 50,000 signatures, though they needed only 17,259.)

So the city officials packaged their sermon subpoenas under a discovery phase in that case, despite warnings from other legal experts about constitutional obstacles. In short, Parker and Feldman mandated the turnover of "all speeches, presentations, or sermons related to (the equal rights ordinance), the Petition, Mayor Annise Parker, homosexuality, or gender identity prepared by, delivered by, revised by, or approved by" the pastors or in their possession.
Updated: Tue Oct 21, 2014
895408e62f280b1f8fe6df590222b85a Unfair! for 10/12/2014 Sun, 12 Oct 2014 00:00:00 -0700

So, here we are roughly 500 days after the IRS was caught red-handed using fear and intimidation to target and wage war on conservative groups, including tea party patriots, pro-Israel advocates and Christian organizations. More of the same! Or do we really believe that the IRS is now miraculously neutral and unbiased as it "coincidentally" focuses on more critics of the federal government and Obamacare? Rather, it is a deliberate ploy to maneuver him into an even greater place of influence, possibly even the Supreme Court.

The most obvious replacement on the Supreme Court is liberal-leaning Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. She was appointed to the Supreme Court in 1993 by President Bill Clinton with a 96-3 Senate vote, something she admits today would never happen because of her liberal voting record and her connection with the American Civil Liberties Union. Indeed, she is hailed as the Supreme Court's liberal leader, even hugging President Barack Obama before the nation as if he were her own son.

I know that Ginsburg has said repeatedly that she will not retire, but then again, not exactly. She gave a rare interview to Elle magazine right before Holder resigned, in which she stated: "Who do you think President Obama could appoint at this very day, given the boundaries that we have? If I resign any time this year, he could not successfully appoint anyone I would like to see in the court. (The Senate Democrats) took off the filibuster for lower federal court appointments, but it remains for this court. So anybody who thinks that if I step down, Obama could appoint someone like me, they're misguided. As long as I can do the job full steam ... I think I'll recognize when the time comes that I can't any longer. But now I can."
Updated: Tue Oct 07, 2014
