Thirteen-year-old Danny Schumacher thought middle school would be perfect. He’s popular, athletic, and in class with his best friends, including the girl of his dreams, Hannah Crawford. Everything was going great... Until the new kid, Ray Fletcher, showed up.
Ray knows no one and latches onto Hannah with an unhealthy obsession. At first, Danny and his friends shrug off Ray’s quirkiness and fixation as nothing more than wanting to fit in. But with each passing day, their tolerance wanes, while their frustration flourishes.
With the annual Halloween costume dance approaching, Danny, Hannah, and their friends plan to teach Ray Fletcher a lesson he’ll never forget!
Mirroring Edgar Allan Poe’s classic, “The Cask of Amontillado,” and the emotional journey of Fortunado and Montressor, “Fortunate” navigates the emotional roller coaster that is being a teenager in middle school, and the dark places fear and jealousy can take us.
