The Rev. Mike Morgan began serving as senior pastor of Gainesville First United Methodist Church on Sept. 1, 2020. Mike is a native of Conyers, Georgia, and holds degrees from Young Harris College, The University of Georgia and Emory University.
Mike is also the creator of For Heaven’s Sake! -- a nationally syndicated weekly comic strip that now appears in The (Gainesville) Times. Mike has also worked as a newspaper artist/cartoonist for The (Macon) Telegraph and The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He is a member of the National Cartoonists Society.
Before coming to Gainesville, Mike pastored United Methodist congregations in Greensboro, Cartersville, Conyers, Hazlehurst and Macon. Mike has also served as editor of Georgia’s historic United Methodist newspaper, the Wesleyan Christian Advocate.
In 1991, Mike began writing and drawing For Heaven’s Sake, a weekly comic strip that celebrates the faith and pokes fun at the foibles of the congregation and staff of the fictional Mainline Memorial Church.
Mike first met his wife, Karen, when they were both students at Young Harris College. Mike and Karen celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary this summer. They have two grown sons, a lovely daughter-in-law, another lovely soon-to-be daughter-in-law, and one precious granddaughter, who just turned 7.
Mike and Karen are excited to be making their new home in Gainesville, and feel very blessed to be serving the Lord with you at Gainesville First United Methodist Church.
