Bridesmaids invest a lot of their time, energy and money. According to the wedding industry survey site The Wedding Report, they may each spend over $1,000 on bridesmaid responsibilities such as buying a dress, hosting a bridal shower, traveling and booking a hotel room. To thank them for all of their effort and support, brides love to get their bridesmaids fabulous thank-you gifts. Here are the top trends in gifts for bridesmaids:
The top picks in bridesmaid jewelry, often coordinated with bridesmaid dresses, include fashion-forward initials and name necklaces or collections of bangle bracelets with beads or crystals.
Another trend is having custom jewelry made using sand from a bridesmaid's favorite beach. Holly Daniels Christensen, founder and chief designer at Dune Jewelry says that brides often look through her company's massive sandbank of authentic sands from beaches all over the world, to find one that's most fitting. "It might be a beach where the bride and her friends went on a girls' getaway or spring break, or a favorite lake where they spend every summer," says Christensen. Then brides choose a jewelry piece such as a sandbead necklace or just the sandbead to add to a bead bracelet collection the bridesmaid already owns. Other popular items are heart-shaped pendants filled with personalized-pick sands. When bridesmaids get these jewelry gifts, the present comes with favorite memories.
Kathryn Drury Wagner, senior manager of content at present trend site Gifts.com, says, "Personalization, such as monogramming a gift, or adding a date or message, is both a classic idea and totally on-trend." Some of the gifts that Wagner names as top trends include decor items like personalized trays for entertaining and phone cases or tablet sleeves. "You can go big with a personalized item, or go small with a surprising item like a personalized Pop-Tarts box ($17.95 on the site) that may remind the bridesmaid of breakfasts you enjoyed back in college or road trip snacks.
Wagner suggests a few personalized gift detail trends, like wood engraving and laser etching, as well as using "contrasting color embroidery to make initials pop." Also, Wagner says that personalizing gifts with images is now a popular option, one that can be used on phone cases, wine charms and other items.
Joseph Dolac, director of merchandising for RedEnvelope, says that personalization is a top choice in gifts because, "People want the opportunity to deliver a gift that makes a 'wow' statement. Personalized chalkboards, for example. You can change it every day, such as adding to a list of '100 Reasons I Love you' or kitchen blackboard where you can write the menu or something like, 'Dinner is ready; take it or leave it!' A sense of humor and personality can come through."
As d?cor items, pillows make a statement and can also be personalized to each bridesmaid. Dolac says that leading trends include "Silk, velvet and linen-combination pillows." Pillows with quotes or lovely statements embroidered or printed on them can add some flair to the bridesmaid's home.
In keeping with the wedding trend of DIY crafts, today's votive candleholders may be painted with pretty images of florals, butterflies and other motifs. "Candles are popular gifts for bridesmaids because they are affordable, universal, and able to be personalized in really unique ways. Candles are not contingent on the lifestyle of the bridesmaid (e.g., do they drink wine? do they wear jewelry, etc.) which makes them a gift that fits everyone," says Lyndsey Marie, owner and designer at Willow Creek Glass on Etsy. Marie says that some of the top-trend hand-painted, scent-free candle designs popular for bridesmaid gifts include bouquet, white gardenia, cherry blossom, and pink flower.
If the hand-painted, artsy look isn't upscale enough for you, look to limited edition candles in top designer's lines, like Jo Malone's "Spring Blossom" at upscale stores like Nordstrom and Saks Fifth Avenue, a top gift pick of Wagner's at Gifts.com.
Bridesmaids who love their labels will delight at getting a Kate Spade bracelet or a Jonathan Adler mini pouch, affordable items in top-name designers' collections. Tiffany key chains and other budget-friendly items come in that signature light blue box, always a pleasing presentation to beloved bridesmaids.
Wagner's collection of top gift picks for bridesmaid includes a gold glittery flash, personalized to each bridesmaid. And fashion items with sparkle, such as headbands, are on-trend, enjoyed by bridesmaids of all ages, as well as junior bridesmaids in their teens who don't get a flask.
Also in the designer name gift category, a trio of lip glosses from the Bobbi Brown line is a welcome gift, and pampering lotion or massage oil collections are also top trends for bridesmaids to indulge themselves. Especially trendy are hand- and foot-soothing products like spa gloves or socks, sugar scrubs, and organic honey or peppermint lotions.
Pair a colorful bottled beverage, like the bright pink-hued Sauza sparkling watermelon margarita, with a pair of margarita glasses hand-painted with watermelon colors or a watermelon motif, and add watermelon-print cocktail napkins and coasters for a cocktails-for-two basket.
And of course, add in a handwritten, personalized note of thanks to each bridesmaid, thanking her for everything she's done to add even more joy and excitement to your wedding, as well as for years of the gift of her friendship.
