Wash away those winter blahs and find some summer ahas! It is time to put on a new face and maybe do something new with your hair, too. Make a fresh start to spring with some of these beauty tips and trends for the season ahead.
--Shimmer and shine. Luminous makeup is making faces sparkle this spring and summer. Metallic eye shadow, eyeliner and even gilded brow shadow are lighting up faces. Gold is the all-time favorite way to put on the glitz, but bronze is a close second. For evening makeup, these bold metallic shades can really make you feel like a warrior woman. But for daytime wear, keep your foundation minimal if you take a shine to this trend.
--Add drama with blue. Eyes are getting washed with waves of watercolor hues, too. The new smoky eye is smudged with pastel shadows in ocean teals, blues and greens.
--Try a crush on orange. Move over ruby red lips, here comes a rush for orange lip colors! This fiery tint is a real statement maker for spring and summer. But if you're not quite ready for the bold tangerine shade, try more of a peachy tone instead.
--Nail it with white. It's the new neutral for nails. Opaque white polish allows your nails to go with your entire wardrobe. It can easily transition from day to night -- pearly subtle pinkish white to all-out glimmery glamor.
--Come undone. Good news! Professionally done looks are over; the "undone" look is in. Think slightly tousled waves and curls for longer hair and piecey, punky pixie looks for shorter hair. If you have long hair and want to wear it up, try first braiding hair and then twisting it into a French knot, allowing some hair to remain loose. Or stick to a long, low ponytail for an easy, breezy look for the warmer months ahead.
--Accessorize! Hair accessories have come a long way since Hillary's headbands. Whether they feature romantic flowers, wispy ribbons or studded leather, the headbands of today are meant to be worn (and seen) everyday, not just saved for garden parties and weddings.
--Color it! For a real change this spring and summer, why not really make a change ... in your hair color, that is. Bold, almost supernatural colors are setting the trend for standout hair. Midnight blue perhaps? Passionate purple? Snow white? And if you're feeling skittish, just a streak or two adds dimension, as well.
