Ladies, get your engines started. It's time to rev up in shoes that speak something special to your soles. If there's one thing you buy new this spring, it's got to be a pair of show-stopping shoes. Step out in footwear that is unique and imaginative. Who cares what you're wearing?
The novelty shoe is where the fashion trends are taking us this spring. From Prada's hot-rod shoes with shooting winged fin flames to Stuart Weitzman's pastel strappy sandals with metallic toecaps to Michael Kors' animal print wedges, this is the season to make tracks to your nearest shoe salon. Don't be afraid to take a walk on the wild side.
Here are the latest trends to step out in this spring:
--Loafing it. Fun is the key word for these new flats inspired by the penny loafers we all wore in grade school. This season, fashion designers have taken new strides to give them a chic new lease on life. Marc Jacobs and Diane von Furstenberg accessorized their spring runway collections with them. Check out the originals in updated black and white from Bass.
--Capping it. From ballet flats to stiletto sandals, the cap toe is making a comeback. Whether it's in a metallic silver like the strappy sandals at Stuart Weitzman or in silver lambskin like the Chanel classic ballet flats, the cap toe points the way to a bright new trend.
--Wedging it. Platforms have been around for a few years now, but the wedge heels -- both high and low -- are still making news. This spring, check out the chunky wooden heels that are much more comfortable thanks to softer insoles.
--Boxing it. Think you have to wear killer spike heels? No way. This spring, thank goodness there's a return to shoe sanity. Low heels! And these aren't just those little spindly kitten heels, either; the new shape of low-heeled sandals is a boxy square heel that you can actually run to catch a cab in. Love the ones at Anthropologie.
--Coloring it. Whether it's a platform wedge or a preppy boat shoe, the newest shoes this spring are splashed with vibrant colors -- from melodramatic melons to cucumber cool greens to limoncello lemons. The turquoise platforms at Guess are too cool for the pool.
--Strapping it. Ankle straps are the thing, girls. Whether they are cinching in ballet flats or platforms or snaking all the way up the leg in gladiator style, the ankle strap is a major player in the shoe show this season. The T-strap is another major shoe style statement -- in casual sandals or sexy cocktail shoes. One of the best deals of the season? Isabel Toledo's strappy platform sandals at Payless.
