You've got the basics covered -- the little black dress, a pair of tailored trousers, a pencil skirt, a ruffled blouse and your favorite belted jacket. But now you've got to add your own personal touch to those wardrobe standards. It's time to shop for those accessories that give you big-time fashion personality.
Here's a look at the season's hottest trends:
-- The chunky cuff. Pile it on. One big, wide one or several at a time. Often embellished with gemstones or intricate architectural designs, the bigger the cuffs the better. Gold is a winner -- but silver is polished, too.
-- A major necklace. We're talking big time here, too. Who needs ruffles when you can have ridges and rocks and stones and any other kind of major bauble floating around your neck. Go for one statement piece that you can wear with everything.
-- Opera-length gloves. With sleeveless sheaths or three-quarter sleeve jackets, the longer the glove the better. We're talking way up above the elbow. If you want them shorter, just scrunch them down.
-- Trendy boots. Whether it's a short wedge-heel bootie, a lace-up ankle boot or the all-out glamour of an over-the-knee boot, you can't go wrong with buying one standout boot to go with everything from pants to dresses and skirts.
-- Suede pumps in living color. A great way to add some color to your wardrobe. While black pumps are always a classic, don't be afraid to step out in some saturated jewel tones that will instantly transform your head-to-toe outfit no matter what you're wearing.
-- Opaque tights. Another winning accessory for everyone. Experiment with autumnal hues that mix and match in darker colors. Choose contrasting colors for your skirts and dresses. Or go with a monotone look that will instantly slim you down and keep you warm.
-- A brand-new bag. Not quite as big a deal as in years past (who wants to max out their credit cards these days on a designer tote?), but a necessity, of course, for most of us who still enjoy picking up a new handbag every new season. Top handles and flap bags are the newsmakers.
-- Ornate clutches. Eye candy for more dressed-up occasions, these handbags are collectible and great for adding drama to a simple sheath dress or menswear pantsuit. The smaller the better.
-- Black lace. Not just for lingerie anymore. Lace, especially in the ever-popular black, is clearly a trendsetting fabric covering boots, shoes and handbags. It's so naughty, it's nice.
-- Feather frills. Want just a little something new to wear on a hat, a pump or around your neck? There's a flock of feather-adorned accessories just waiting to fly into your wardrobe. Birds of a fashion feather really do flock together this fall.
