Christmas Getaways

With the holidays quickly approaching, it can feel as if everyone is making a mad dash for the mall or ordering mass quantities of online gifts. But what about thinking outside the box -- literally -- and treating yourself and your loved ones to an adventurous gift that you get to enjoy on Christmas Day itself?! In fact, many resorts offer incredible all-inclusive getaway deals during Christmastime. Because this is a low-traffic vacation time, you could find yourself an unbelievable discount at your dream destination spot, with very few travelers around.

If you're planning to fly for your Christmas vacation and your flight isn't included in the travel package, there are many credit cards that offer signing bonuses with miles and companion benefits, such as free checked baggage for up to eight passengers traveling on the same flight. (Delta has this option for its Gold Delta SkyMiles card.) You can do some research to find out which card is best for you, and you could even get yourself a free flight just for purchasing the rest of the trip on your card.

For the destination itself, if you're looking for a warm-weather jolly old time, Cancun, Mexico, might be the perfect place for you and your family. Check out both Orbitz and Expedia for options that include the resort, flights and even rental cars under one total cost, which could save you hundreds of dollars. If you're looking for a trip the entire family can enjoy, the Fiesta Americana Condesa Cancun All-Inclusive resort is rated as one of the top all-inclusive resorts in Cancun by TripAdvisor. According to customer reviews, the resort goes above and beyond in its meal preparation, setting itself apart from the competitors with made-to-order meal options, as well. This oceanfront resort has a beautiful pool area, a spa, Wi-Fi and a pirate pool just for the kids. The resort could be a good place to bring the entire extended family. Rooms go for as low as $120.

If you'd like more of a romantic vibe for your Christmas escape, Cancun can give you that, as well. Le Blanc Spa Resort is a beautiful place to reconnect with your partner, with several pools, exceptional staff attention, top-shelf liquor included in the package and an award-winning spa. However, this five-star option doesn't come cheap; it will run you on average between $600 and $1,200 per night.

Perhaps Mexico isn't calling you but you still want a tropical setting. The tranquil Hawaiian island of Maui will seduce you with its waves, and the friendly locals will have you smiling back at them in no time. It isn't easy to find all-inclusive resorts on Maui, because its tourist recommendations are usually supportive of exploring restaurants. However, Aloha Hawaiian Vacations has an entire package that includes flights, day trips, excursions, hotel stay and more. If you have always wanted to go but haven't known where to start, this is an easy and thorough way to say aloha to Hawaii.

With so many options, it may feel easier to stick to one company that offers all-inclusive packages for all of its resorts and choose from the locations it is set up in. Club Med has dozens of options around the world, with early-bird rates and last-minute discounts, as well. If you're open to all different types of trips, you might just find yourself falling in love with the Alps because you decided to take a risk and book a trip there on a whim. Club Med offers many different price ranges, depending on how many people you're traveling with.

And of course, with Airbnb and similar sites, if you change your mind on the all-inclusive route and decide that you'd like to book a place yourself and fill it with food from local stores, that's become almost as simple as staying at a resort with everything you could ever want at your fingertips.

Whatever you decide, be sure to take lots of photo. This is the kind of gift that the memories will continue to give for years to come.
