Presidential Nicknames

This week's quiz is a collection of the nicknames placed on U.S. presidents over the decades. Several Answer Man-ers have suggested this Theme Quiz. Some will be pretty easy; others may be tough, but interesting.

1. What famed U.S. president was well-known as "The Father of Our Country"? Name him.

2. "The Great Communicator" was also well-known as "Dutch." Who was this Communicator?

3. "The Rail-Splitter" has countless nicknames, including "The Great Emancipator." Who was this president known also as "Honest Abe"?

4. "Old Three Stars" was also often referred to as "Uncle Sam" and several other two-word nicknames. Who was this chief executive?

5. Which president was often noted with such nicknames as "The Trickster" or "Tricky Dick”? Name him.

6. Who was "Ike"?

7. A popular nickname labeled one of our early chief executives as "The Father of the Constitution." Name him.

8. Honored as "Rough Rider" or "Bull Moose," who was the president who was so referred to with public pride?

9. "The Father of the Declaration of Independence" had another nickname as "The Sage of Monticello." Name him.

10. "High Tax Harry" was also often cited as "Give 'Em Hell Harry." What was his real name?

1. George Washington was quite easily recognized as our Founding Father.

2. You might also have labeled Ronald Reagan as the "Gipper."

3. This immortal president was Abraham Lincoln.

4. Ulysses S. Grant was often labeled by such nicknames as "Unconditional Surrender Grant" and several others.

5. Richard M. Nixon was often given such derogatory nicknames.

6. Ike was the nickname for Dwight D. Eisenhower.

7. James Madison was given that nickname in honor of his work on the U.S. Constitution. He was also praised as the "Sage of Montpelier," his noted estate in Virginia.

8. These were Teddy Roosevelt's nicknames resulting from his military records.

9. Monticello was the estate of Thomas Jefferson, who fathered the Declaration of Independence.

10. These were nicknames heaped on Harry Truman.
