Elites and Tyrants
Rep. Diane Watson said, in praising Cuba's health care system, "You can think whatever you want to about Fidel Castro, but he was one of the brightest leaders I have ever met." W.E.B. Dubois, writing in the National Guardian (1953) said, "Joseph Stalin was a great man; few other men of the 20th century approach his stature. ... But also — and this was the highest proof of his greatness — he knew the common man, felt his problems, followed his fate." Walter Duranty called Stalin "the greatest living statesman . . . a quiet, unobtrusive man." George Bernard Shaw expressed admiration for Mussolini, Hitler and Stalin.
John Kenneth Galbraith visited Mao's China and praised Mao and the Chinese economic system. Gunther Stein of the Christian Science Monitor admired Mao Tsetung and declared ecstatically that "the men and women pioneers of Yenan are truly new humans in spirit, thought and action," and that Yenan itself constituted "a brand new well integrated society, that has never been seen before anywhere." Michel Oksenberg, President Carter's China expert, complained that "America (is) doomed to decay until radical, even revolutionary, change fundamentally alters the institutions and values," and urged us to "borrow ideas and solutions" from China.
Even Harvard's late Professor John K. Fairbank, by no means the worst tyrant worshipper, believed that America could learn much from the Cultural Revolution, saying, "Americans may find in China's collective life today an ingredient of personal moral concern for one's neighbor that has a lesson for us all." Keep in mind that estimates of the number of Chinese deaths during China's Cultural Revolution range from 2 to 7 million people. Mao Tsetung was admired by many academics and leftists across our country. Just think back to the campus demonstrations of the '60s and '70s when campus radicals, often accompanied by their professors, marched around singing the praises of Mao and waving Mao's little red book, "Quotations from Chairman Mao Tsetung." Forty years later some of these campus radicals are tenured professors and administrators at today's universities and colleges, as well as schoolteachers and principals indoctrinating our youth.
The most authoritative tally of history's most murderous regimes is in a book by University of Hawaii's Professor Rudolph J. Rummel, "Death by Government." Statistics are provided at his website: (http://www.hawaii.edu/powerkills/welcome.html). The Nazis murdered 20 million of their own people and those in nations they captured. Between 1917 and 1987, Stalin and his successors murdered, or were otherwise responsible for the deaths of, 62 million of their own people. Between 1949 and 1987, Mao Tsetung and his successors were responsible for the deaths of 76 million Chinese.
Today's leftists, socialists and progressives would bristle at the suggestion that their agenda differs little from Nazism. However, there's little or no distinction between Nazism and socialism. Even the word Nazi is short for National Socialist German Workers Party. The origins of the unspeakable horrors of Nazism, Stalinism and Maoism did not begin in the '20s, '30s and '40s. Those horrors were simply the end result of long evolution of ideas leading to consolidation of power in central government in the quest for "social justice." It was decent but misguided earlier generations of Germans, like many of today's Americans, who would have cringed at the thought of genocide, who built the Trojan horse for Hitler to take over.
Few Americans have the stomach or ruthlessness to do what is necessary to make their governmental wishes come true. They are willing to abandon constitutional principles and rule of law so that the nation's elite, who believe they are morally and intellectually superior to the rest of us, can have the tools to implement "social justice." Those tools are massive centralized government power. It just turns out last century's notables in acquiring powerful central government, in the name of social justice, were Hitler, Stalin, Mao, but the struggle for social justice isn't over yet, and other suitors of this dubious distinction are waiting in the wings.

Of course leftists, socialists and progressives bristle at the suggestion that their agendas are substantially the same as Nazism. It is not merely because of emotional aversion with being associated with Hitler. It is because it is simply untrue. The Nazis, you may remember were very pro-corporate capitalism. Just ask Ford, IBM, and every other company that benefited from Jewish slave labor. Despite its name, the National Socialist Party was a right-wing movement that defended and were funded by the wealthy to violently attack leftists, socialists and progressives. It then went on to justify gross civil rights violations (to put it very mildly) and engaged in wars of aggression in order to advance the interests of their corporate benefactors. While this does fit certain parties and especially the last administration, it can't be any more opposite of the agendas of leftists, socialists and progressives.

Dear Walter Williams. Good Article. Someone once said “The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. Under the name of “liberalism, they'll adopt every fragment of socialist party, until one day
America will be a socialist nation without knowing what happened!”
Remember the song “Step out of line and they'll come take you away!” Definitely, should
apply to politicians, lobbyists, unions, CEO's, special interests, insurance and drug
companies! PACS must be dissolved! Taxpayers know these ‘blood-sucking ticks' can't
get elected without millions from these people who're seeking something in return!'
Taxpayers know this is corruption! Why should Taxpayers have to pay more for their
insurance and medicines, just so politicians can get elected?
Several million jobs lost, and no accountability by politicians! Doesn't take a rocket
scientist to figure out politicians have been out of line! Taxpayers are willing to sell them
a one-way ticket to Gitmo, which is more than they deserve, take all their assets to pay
off the trillions they've borrowed, without Taxpayers consent, and bid them farewell!
Why should Taxpayers be held responsible for the ‘so-called agreements and the
borrowing of trillions of dollars from foreign countries made by the politicians?'
Taxpayers know that all the Committees being used by politicians on local, state, and
federal levels, are just a way to hide what they're really doing! ‘Ways and Means, Ethics,
Appropriations, Government Reform, Economics, Financial Services, Pensions, Rules,
Finance, Education', I think you're getting the message! For past five decades, wouldn't
you think that with all these committees someone honest with intregrity would have
stepped up to the plate and put an end to ‘corruption and greed' in government?
‘A real joke' - letting the crooked politicians ‘investigate one of their own!'
Someone once said “The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. Under
the name of “liberalism, they'll adopt every fragment of socialist party, until one day
America will be a socialist nation without knowing what happened!”
Wake up, America!

F.A. Hayek's Road to Serfdom is still one of the best explorations of the reasons that socialism and central planning inevitably lead to a system controlled by a few powerful individuals lacking oversight. Just plugging it as a great elaboration of the argument presented here.

Readers may benefit from a more precise approach to what Walter is stating about tyrants and the forms of social organization they demand and why they NEED a hierarchical organization of masters / slaves:
The "rule of law" is a precisely defined law. It is the highest law of mankind, stated below:
“the suppression of forceful and fraudulent methods of goal seeking”
“all are treated equally by the law”. This means ALL, including king and judges
“absolute property rights”
This in turn is based on the fact that human behavior (the topic of law) is about goal seeking. In the seeking of any goal, there are only three possible methods: force, fraud and honest trade. Any transaction that is not an honest, mutually agreed trade will cause a self-defensive response (conflict) from the victim whose survival has been affected.
"The Rule of Law" is the glue that keeps all of mankind acting together in common interest, tied together by mutual dependence of trade, on an evolutionary path to excellence. Force and fraud creates conflict and destroys civilizations. Mankind is now on a devolutionary path to extinction because the co-operation once forced by "the rule of law" has been replaced by legitimizing force and fraud for those who incorrectly believe they wield power.

Dear Walter Williams, as you"re aware, Federal (local and State) deficits are soaring due to imcompetent politicians and from their latest remarks "they're way of thinking is still ‘we'll stimulate the economy with more bailouts and handouts' and once the great recession ends, we'll reduce the deficit!' A little late, wouldn't you say? All Economists and Taxpayers, know the politicians will never get control of the imbalances; therefore, it's time to hand out pink slips.
From 1998 until 2004, I asked the NRCC why Taxpayers couldn't get honest answers from
politicians of all affiliations. The form letters they sent in return, hand stamped, written by a
staffer, made me wonder where the greedy politicians stayed all the time. It further told me that
politicians had no interest in anything except their very deep pockets.
Economy never fully recovered from the 70's! Due to lack of American businesses, higher taxes,
plastic cars and other overpriced consumer products, these greedy politicians should have been
concentrating on America's future. Politicians should have started cutting their salaries,
retirements, taxing and spending and going over the high-dollar budgets, line by line, until
everything was cut back fifty (50%) percent.
The enormous debt brought about by incompetent politicians, high salaries, retirements, social,
welfare programs, and frivolous overspending should have stopped. Instead, it's now boiled over
like a run-a-way train. The only thing the greedy politicians can say is ‘I inherited this debt!'
Instead of cutting and changing what should have been done, they're way of thinking is still ‘we'll
stimulate the economy with more bailouts and handouts' and once the great recession ends, we'll
reduce the deficit!' A little late, wouldn't you say? All Economists and Taxpayers, know the
politicians will never get control of the imbalances; therefore, it's time to hand out pink slips.
I pointed out that all manufacturing jobs had to be brought back to America. We couldn't be a
‘service country'. The only thing America is servicing is unemployment, social and welfare
programs. It's now late October 2009, and the trillions of dollars, borrowed without Taxpayers
consent, is growing to the point it's making Taxpayers think “Who's going to own America when
the interest isn't paid?”
I further pointed out that Social Security belonged only to Taxpayers that had worked and should
be their retirement! Folks, through corrupt and greedy politicians, social security has been
borrowed against for illegitimates and people not wanting to work leaving nothing for the people
that paid money in. Democrat and Republican Taxpayers, of all races, should be outraged by the
radical and socialist proposed Healthcare. Anyone, with common sense, should have guessed that
1012 pages (unread by politicians as usual) wasn't about Healthcare but about hidden agendas and
building a bridge over the sand in the Arizona desert.
What's really going to happen to Social Security since there's no one working to pay into the system
for future generations? Do you think the politicians are going to continue to hand you a check that
you're not entitled to?
Politicians say ‘you must volunteer and give back to your community!' By the way, why don't you
get off your duffs and volunteer at homeless shelters and without the secret service, since this costs
Taxpayers. While I'm on a roll, you could also donate eleven (11) months of your salaries and
retirement benefits to Taxpayers that's having to work two (2) jobs just to survive due to your
incompetency!
By the way, Taxpayers ‘Pledge to Fight Socialized Medicine!'
