Voter Anger, Noisy Bags, Strangling Republicans and a Trump PresidencyDear Mark: Conservatives and tea partiers think the Democrats will be stomped in November. A Newsweek poll showed that only 23 percent of voters will be driven by anger when they vote. Doesn't that throw cold water on the theory that angry voters will cause a change in power in Washington because of their anger towards President Obama? — Dandy Dem in Duluth Dear Dandy: Once again, this is wishful thinking by the media and other liberals. You might be interested to know that the Newsweek poll also showed that 54 percent of voters will be driven by frustration. That means 77 percent of voters are angry and frustrated with Washington. Combine the Newsweek findings with the most recent Gallup Poll showing Republicans with a huge lead in the enthusiasm gap, and the news for Democrats is not very rosy for the upcoming midterm elections. I guess if you can't run on the economy and Obamacare, you've got to find some reason to be optimistic to reassure the Democrat base. As for me personally, I'm not angry. In fact, I've reached an inner peace knowing that in a few short weeks I will cast my vote and help turn the tide in our country. Dear Mark: Frito Lay is pulling the biodegradable packaging of its Sun Chips brand because it's too noisy. The famous chip company was headed in the right direction using compostable materials. How can we ever have a cleaner environment if corporations give up so easily? — Green Gus in Greenville Dear Green: Frito Lay, in a USA Today article, explains, "The noise of the bag — due to an unusual molecular structure that makes the bag more rigid — has been compared to everything from lawnmowers to jet engines." Sounds like the same problem President Obama is having with Vice President Biden.
Dear Mark: I'm a little upset with Vice President Joe Biden. At a fundraiser in Minnesota, he used the word "strangle" when referring to what he would like to do to Republicans when they talk about balancing the budget. Isn't politics bad enough without resorting to this kind of language? — Modest Ma'am in Marlborough Dear Modest: According to an AP story, Biden was telling the crowd that Democrats know how to balance the budget. He said, "If I hear one more Republican tell me about balancing the budget, I'm going to strangle them." I am also offended by the vice president's remarks. Can you believe Biden actually had the nerve to say Democrats know how to balance the budget? That is truly offensive. Dear Mark: Donald Trump mentioned this week that he is considering a run for the presidency in 2012. I feel that his candidacy will make a mockery of the electoral process. What do you think? — Bill in Boise Dear Bill: Making a mockery of the process, are you kidding? Donald Trump would not be the first publicity-seeking, pompous man full of bluster to ever seek public office. On the positive side, Trump is a very successful businessman who has the intelligence and business savvy that our economy needs right now. Unlike the current occupant of the White House, "The Donald" has actually created jobs. One historical note: Trump would be the first president in 175 years to wear a powdered wig.
