There's No Misreading the Stimulus Disaster

Share Comment

Dear Mark: Vice President Joe Biden seemed sincere and genuinely concerned when answering questions about the economy recently. I can understand how the administration could "misread" the economic indicators. As Americans, shouldn't we be patient? It looks like they're trying hard to figure this out. — Faith in the Future in Fulton County

Dear Faith: I can also understand how the administration "misread" the economy — mainly because liberals don't know anything about economics to begin with. There is so much wrong with the vice president's statements as well as the administration's overall economic approach.

First of all, how could the president and VP "misread" the economic indicators when they were both seated U.S. senators actively engaged in the affairs of the country? Oh, that's right — they were too busy running for office to pay attention to silly little details like how to honestly deal with the economy.

Second, Biden contradicts himself in the same interview when he said the stimulus package was designed to take 15 to 18 months to implement, while complaining that the stimulus money is not going out fast enough.

The stimulus package was sold to the American people as an urgent means to avoid catastrophic consequences. They were told that the stimulus would immediately relieve the negative economic pressure on the country and the world. In fact, disaster was so imminent that without the stimulus package, President Obama predicted unemployment could reach as high as 8 percent.

Today, with the Democrat stimulus plan, unemployment sits at 9.5 percent, due in part to the fears that businesses have concerning the explosion in government spending and what that would mean for taxes and inflation.

The vice president should follow the example of Nancy Pelosi and the House of Representatives, who after all didn't even read the stimulus bill before voting, so how could they possibly "misread" anything?

The administration and several Democrat leaders say they are not ruling out a second stimulus package, which is laughable at best and scary at worst.

If the stimulus money, overseen by Democrats, cannot get out fast enough to make a difference, then why would a second stimulus do any better? Oh, yeah, Democrat logic and something about the definition of insanity.

Dear Mark: While having a few beers the other night, my buddy and I got into a big discussion about the Sarah Palin resignation. My buddy thinks she's hot and is disappointed that we won't be seeing much of her anymore. I believe we'll be seeing more of her, which is good because she is definitely hot. Can you settle this? — Palin Pandemonium in Pennsylvania

Dear Pandemonium: I don't know for sure, but my gut tells me that we haven't seen the last of Sarah Palin.

I believe she is clearing her plate and circling the wagons in order to make a presidential bid. Those plans will include spending time at home, raising money for other conservative candidates, earning her own money on the lecture circuit and beginning her own presidential exploratory committee. I like her unorthodox style in that many politicians would remain in office while running for president, thus shortchanging both constituents and family. Will she remain viable? Time will tell.

Dear Mark: What a joke (no pun intended) that Al Franken is now officially the junior senator from Minnesota. Don't you think his election hurts the integrity of the entire Congress? — Little Laughing in Lubbock

Dear Little: Wow, integrity is not a word you hear associated with Congress very often these days. Try not to fret. Washington has been full of clowns for so long, what could a washed-up liberal radio host and former "Saturday Night Live" personality possibly hurt?
