Running on Free Contraception and Presidential Math

Comment

Dear Mark: It seems the kerfuffle over the "free contraception" portion of Obamacare hasn't died down even after the president's people declared it over. This issue is either a total political miscalculation on the part of the White House that blew up in Obama's face or Obama's re-election team is attempting to turn "free contraception" into a re-election tactic. Which do you think it is and why? — USC Trojan Man

Dear USC: I actually believe this episode contains elements of both. The president with his arrogance probably thought he could slide this little gem past the Catholic bishops by simply dazzling them with his narcissistic saint-like aura. When that failed, Team Obama saw an opening to make lemonade out of lemons and win a few independent voters by couching the 2012 election as a referendum on social issues rather than the economy.

Running on his actual legislative record would involve being honest with the voters, guaranteeing the Obama family a one-way ticket back to Chicago. Therefore the latter scenario appears to fit better with Obama's overall re-election strategy of divide and conquer in order to win at all costs.

Despite some barely perceptible positive economic news, Democrats still can't run full speed on the Obama, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi record. So, to deflect criticism, they have developed this re-election strategy of conning Americans to believe that Republicans are "anti-contraception." Just add that to the laundry list of false bumper stickers spewed by the left against the GOP.

In 2012, Democrats will lead you to believe that Republicans want dirty air and dirty water. Republicans are also racist, obstructionist, anti-teacher, anti-police, anti-firefighter, anti-first responder, anti-grandmother, anti-Medicare, anti Social Security, anti-working class, anti-immigrant, anti-poor, anti-woman anti-health care, and I believe they are also working on the anti-puppy and anti-Santa Claus angles, as well.

Unfortunately there are millions of voters who buy into that caricature of Republicans, including Democrat Rep.

Maxine Waters, who referred to her Republican colleagues in the House as "demons" this week. That would be the same Waters who is under investigation for House ethics violations. No wonder she thinks Republicans are demons.

Dear Mark: President Obama presented his new budget on Monday, and it appears to have gone over like a skunk at a garden party. As individuals, we have to live under personal budgets, and all businesses have to do the same. Yet this president can't present a budget that comes close to reducing the deficit he promised to halve during his first term. His excuse, which the media bought hook, line and sinker, is that he didn't know how bad things were going to get. Shouldn't we expect more from a leader than the juvenile "I didn't know" excuse? — Spanky, Spank, Spank

Dear Spanky: That would be fine if we were dealing with a true leader. Obama essentially voted "present" by submitting a budget that Democrat Majority Leader Reid loved so much he isn't even willing to bring it up for vote. The administration immediately blamed Republicans and then lied to the American people by claiming Democrats needed 60 votes to override a Republican filibuster when a simple majority is all that is required for budget legislation.

Hey, Mister Harvard law professor, there are only 47 Republicans in the Senate, which means you have more than enough votes to pass your utopia-creating budget. I guess the president is still smarting from the 97-0 defeat he suffered with his last budget proposal. Ouch!

I seriously considered commenting to refute and present another opinion until I read your 2nd to last paragraph. Sounds like sour grapes and a whole lot of envy coming from someone with a weak major directed toward someone who worked hard to get and pay for an Ivy League education without being born with a silver spoon in his mouth. I realize that you, whose only claim to fame is a 'marketing major', isn't worthy of readership unless I was interested in your opinion on Marketing. And I'm not.

Geez, some folks just have to comment even when they admit they have nothing to say and aren't interested in the opinion of the author. Dear, do you realize, since you are speaking of other people's education, that we probably aren't intersted in the opinion of someone so poorly educated that they think President Eisenhower started WWII? Anybody can make a typo, but a silly claim like that puts your opinion on the far side of Jupiter. We got you, rah rah for Obama, blah blah for anybody else. People have the right to free contraception, but Malkin doesn't have the right to criticize the President. You "...isn't worthy of readership..." to use your own words. So what is your degree in? We know (or hope) it isn't history.

Nice diatribe. It's not s much the Dems think you want these terrible things, it's that they think you are asleep the job and not paying enough attention to dealling with these problems. Then you turn around in a huff and construct fantasies to justify the most dopey responses to these critical issues.

These problems are happening, and they will come to roost at the doorsteps of your kids and grandkids. If you were conservatives worth your salt, you would be concerned about that.

But too many of you are so immersed in making a case about what is bad about Obama and his agenda that you have utterly lost track of these issues and their importance. That is why the President gets no support from you for the things he has done right, and there are many such things.

Your zeal to trash Obama far outweighs your zeal to do what is best for your country and fellow citizens, and that is truly disturbing.
