Pirate Biden, Tim Tebow and E-Books

Dear Mark: I am fit to be tied. This week on "Larry King Live,: Vice President Joe Biden actually had the nerve to take credit for the success in Iraq. Will anybody call the administration on this? — Mad Man in Madison

Dear Mad Man: Certainly nobody in the double-standard mainstream media will report this story and point out the misrepresentations by the vice president. Former Vice President Dan Quayle misspelled potato, and he became the village idiot. Biden makes gaffes on a weekly basis, and he is looked to as the foreign policy expert on Team Obama.

Joe Biden's cannon is so loose that if he were a pirate, he would sink his own ship. Come to think of it, Biden's mouth is blowing a few holes in Obama's ship much to the president's chagrin.

Biden said: "I am optimistic about Iraq. I mean, this could be one of the great achievements of this administration." Are you kidding me? While senators, both Biden and Obama strongly opposed the actions taken in Iraq, especially the surge that finally stabilized the country. The Obama administration loves to whine about the economic challenges it inherited — well, it is time to man up and acknowledge the positive Iraq situation it inherited from George Bush.

Dear Mark: I watched the Super Bowl advertisement involving Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow tackling his mom and found it quite sweet. Why all the controversy? — Super Mom in St. Paul

Dear Super Mom: The controversy arose when women's groups shrieked that a pro-life commercial might air on CBS during the Super Bowl. As it turned out, the ad featuring Tim Tebow's mom relating the story of her difficult pregnancy and the choice she made concerning the life of her unborn son was touching.

This episode exposed the true agenda of groups like the National Organization for Women.

NOW claims to be a pro-choice women's rights organization when in reality it is pursuing an ultra-liberal pro-abortion agenda.

This became evident when NOW was so befuddled by the tastefulness of the ad that the organization felt the need to pitifully attack it for other reasons. Referring to the ad, NOW President Terry O'Neill tried to save face when she said, "I am blown away at the celebration of the violence against women in it."

If people are going to carry the pro-choice mantle, they have to accept that many women will choose life and not abort their unborn babies. Aren't liberals supposed to be tolerant of other people's choices?

Dear Mark: I'm a big fan of reading and even a bigger fan of capitalism. Can you explain why the recent explosion in e-book readers has also caused an increase in e-book prices? Logically, more options should result in lower prices. — Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, Over

Dear Whiskey: Your theory on capitalism is correct. However, two situations with e-books are keeping prices on the high side. First, my research found that the e-book market is fragmented with multiple readers using multiple formats, so not all e-books work on all readers. Second, the rising cost of piracy is being passed directly on to consumers.

Don't fret, my fellow capitalist, as capitalism will eventually solve this problem — unless of course Congress becomes involved. In that case, the solution will go something like this. Declare an e-book crisis, form a commission, demonize the e-book manufacturers, legislate price ceilings, propose subsidies for low income families, raise taxes to pay for the subsidies and, finally, blame Bush.
