Payroll Tax Cut Extension and Ego in Chief

Payroll Tax Cut Extension and Ego in Chief

Dear Mark: You Republidiots are at it again, screwing over the middle class. My local paper's headline said it all: "GOP Rejects Payroll Tax Cut." In case you haven't noticed, these are hard economic times thanks to George Bush. Now House Republicans want to finish Bush's war on the economy. What's your freakin' problem? — Fire them All in the Fall

Dear Fire: Apparently you're falling for the Democrat propaganda the accomplices in the media are promulgating that Republicans are against the Social Security payroll tax cut. My "freakin' problem" is that House Republicans actually agree with President Obama, which the media has failed to report. As recently as Saturday, Dec. 17, Obama was in favor of a one-year extension, and that's all House Republicans want.

A more accurate headline would read, "House GOP Rejects Two Month Payroll Tax Cut Extension in Favor of Full Year Extension." Or try this one "House GOP Lawmakers Reject Senate's Wimpy Two Month Cover-Your-Butt Before Christmas Recess Payroll Tax Cut Extension."

Nobody seems to be asking Obama why he changed his mind in less than a week, but I have two theories. First: Obama's re-election advisors understand that signing legislation that contains a two-month extension gives Democrats another shot at playing class warfare closer to the November elections. They can have fun beating up the Republicans with the usual "tax the rich" sound bites when it's time to renew the tax cut again in February.

Second: Senators from both sides of the aisle were more concerned about getting home for Christmas than actually doing their jobs and coming up with meaningful legislation.

The conversation went something like this.

Harry Reid: Mr. President, my senators are ready to go home, and your wife and kids are already in Hawaii enjoying a lavish vacation. Don't you want to be there with them playing golf?

President Obama: Consider my mind changed. Alert the Democrat slime machine to make up some lame excuse for the two-month extension and blame the tea party in the process.

I hope Santa brings all these senators new wingtips for Christmas, as they have worn out their shoes from kicking this and so many other cans down the road ... Medicare, Social Security, deficit reduction, Keystone Pipeline and so on.

Dear Mark: Once again, I am shocked at the height of arrogance of our president, but not totally surprised. In a portion of his "60 Minutes" interview that didn't air on TV but could be found on the Internet, Obama placed his legislative accomplishments above all our other presidents with the exception of a few. With all of his failed proposals, shouldn't he be a little more humble? — Laughing So I Don't Cry

Dear Laughing: To be fair to the readers, here's Obama's exact quote: "I would put our legislative and foreign policy accomplishments in our first two years against any president — with the possible exceptions of Johnson, FDR and Lincoln — just in terms of what we've gotten done in modern history."

If Obama is talking about Obamacare, cash for clunkers, the beer summit, Solyndra, Fast and Furious, and the stimulus, then by all means let's go ahead and use some more stimulus money to erect his likeness on Mount Rushmore.

No wonder he and Michelle take separate planes on vacation, his ego and his family both can't fit on Air Force One.

Merry Christmas to All!
