Occupy Wall Streeters and Iranian Terror Plot

Share Comment

Dear Mark: Just when I think the liberal media can't lose any more credibility, they're actually trying to equate the Wall Street protestors with the tea party. These protestors seem to be nothing more than 1960s hippies revisited. Their message is all over the map, incoherent and completely misdirected. Many of their complaints are aimed at Wall Street, yet Barack Obama received more corporate campaign contributions than any other presidential candidate in history. Shouldn't they be marching on the White House? — Tea Party Tom in Temple

Dear Tea: If the Occupy Wall Street protestors were truly principled, then of course they would be marching in front of the White House. But principles don't really seem to matter to those folks.

For instance, most of the OWS message appears to be anti-corporate greed and anti-capitalism, and yet most of the protestors couldn't survive one day without corporate America. Most of the protestors look like they shop at Target, Abercrombie & Fitch and Hollister, while communicating with each other through iPhones and Facebook. One can't get much more corporate than that.

And I hate to break it to them, but their beloved Starbucks and Whole Foods are rich corporations. Not to mention the corporate greed when a concertgoer has to lay out $250 for a U2 show. And, God rest his soul, but Steve Jobs certainly didn't give away those iPads.

As far as any resemblance to the tea party, the OWS protestors have been caught defecating, urinating and using illegal drugs in public, and the police have arrested hundreds for a variety of criminal activities. To the best of my knowledge, the members of the tea party held rallies, picked up after themselves and returned to their regular lives.

Oh, yeah, the tea party also took its simple message of smaller government and kicked some tail in the 2010 elections.

It's said that one can tell a lot about a person through the company they keep. So if President Obama, Nancy Pelosi and other Democrats want to embrace the Occupy Wall Street movement of aimless, dope-smoking, law-breaking, trust fund baby, slacker, hippie wannabes, then by all means bring it on, and let's see who the electoral independents prefer in 2012.

Dear Mark: I realize it's tough for you conservatives to do, but it's time to give President Obama credit for foiling another terrorist plot here in the United States. Attorney General Eric Holder made the announcement that U.S. drug agents thwarted an assassination attempt on the Saudi Arabian ambassador to the United States that was to take place in Washington, D.C. The plot has ties to high-ranking officials in the Iranian government. Surely you can say something positive. — Not Holding My Breath

Dear Not: Congratulations to all the men and women in the various law-enforcement agencies who made these arrests possible. Thank you also to President Obama for allowing our agencies to do their jobs, even utilizing eavesdropping on the phone conversations of the culprits in the process. (Please don't tell the ACLU about that.)

It's my pleasure to formerly welcome Obama to the "Iran's government is full of bad people" party. Now let's see what he does with that information. Oh, that's right, he has already begun to petition the United Nations for more sanctions. Ooooh, that will scare Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. How about a few missiles launched at the Quds Force compound inside Iran to send a message, a la Reagan and Libya?

Got it Levy. You want us to declare war on Iran. Good for you. You should put your money where your mouth is and be the first to sign up for that war effort. And, can you enlighten us? Just what does the tea party stand for besides throwing a temper tantrum when you don't get your way?
