Libyan "Hostilities," Obama's Economy and Weiner goneDear Mark: According to the Constitution, Congress must declare war — not the president. According to the 1973 War Powers Resolution, any undeclared "hostilities" require the president to report to Congress within 60 days. At the start of the Libyan "unpleasantness," Prez BO told us this would take days, not weeks. It has now been months, what the ... ? — Wondering Willy in Walker Dear Wondering: I agree, how could anyone possibly believe President Obama with regards to Libya? This is the man who told us he would close Guantanamo Bay and pull out of Iraq and Afghanistan almost immediately. He also told us that Obamacare would reduce health insurance premiums and create jobs. We can't forget that his stimulus package would keep unemployment below 8 percent. Next, he'll be telling us that paying unemployment benefits actually creates jobs. Oops, that was Nancy Pelosi who made that claim. According to a story on Foxnews.com, "Senior administration officials previewing the report Wednesday said U.S. forces are not involved in the kind of 'hostilities' for which the War Powers Resolution says the commander in chief must get congressional approval." I don't know about administration officials, but if someone was dropping bombs, firing missiles and shooting guns in my direction, I would consider that "hostile." The reason President Obama is not seeking congressional approval is to hide the fact from his liberal base that he has actually started a war. I realize that liberals are misguided, but I don't think that even their messiah Barack Obama can fool them into believing that the Libyan conflict is not some kind of war. Dear Mark: I watched the Republican debate this week, and all the candidates could do was criticize President Obama.
Dear Faith: Plan? What plan? The two largest planks of Obama's economic recovery plan have both failed miserably. President Obama promised that his health care bill would create jobs, and those employment opportunities certainly have not materialized. He also promised that his stimulus package contained thousands of "shovel ready" projects involving badly needed infrastructure improvements that would increase employment in communities all across the country. President Obama admitted this week that there were not very many "shovel ready" jobs in his stimulus package and had the nerve to joke about it when he spoke to his jobs council. The Republican candidates had every right to attack Obama. If Obama's stimulus plan did not contain a substantial amount of "shovel ready" programs as promised and Obamacare is not producing new jobs, then what plan are we supposed to be patient with? President Obama is either horribly ignorant on what it takes to create jobs or willfully lied to the American people about what the Democrat slush fund, I mean the stimulus money, was actually for. Unfortunately for the American people, the answer is both. Dear Mark: Sullied congressman Anthony Weiner finally resigned today because of his repugnant behavior. Can we now put this ugly scandal to rest? — Tired of Titillation in Tulsa Dear Tired: The Weiner incident attracts bad puns and jokes like a light bulb attracts bugs, so I hate to see it end. But at least there'll be one less "Weiner" in congress ... sorry about that, folks. Dear Mark is a public platform for your enrichment and entertainment. E-mail your questions to marklevy92@aol.com.
