Hillary's Testimony and the Inauguration Speech

Comment

Dear Mark: I am very disappointed in the performance of our congressional Republicans during the Benghazi hearings with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Actually, I'm extremely upset and angry. Clinton went before the committee spewing talking points that did not add up, and REPUBLICANS let her off the hook. If our own side won't confront the lies from this administration, what are we supposed to do? — No More GOP for Me

Dear No More: I share your frustration with the Republicans during this missed opportunity to get the truth. Three things stood out for me during the questioning.

1) As expected, the Democrats on the committee threw softballs. The Republicans didn't exactly throw softballs, but the hardballs they managed to throw were tossed underhand. Unfortunately, Republicans wasted much of their allotted time adhering to Washington protocol and blowing kisses to Madam Secretary.

I'm not sure what the overall Republican strategy entailed, but asking Hillary difficult questions can be done in a non-confrontational and respectful manner worthy of her office. I know it's hard to believe at times, but they are all adults and should all be able to thoroughly discuss Benghazi without worrying about gotcha repercussions in the press.

2) Hillary's claim that she didn't speak with the survivors because she didn't want to interfere with the FBI's investigation is about as cold and compassionless as a person could be. As Madam Secretary mentioned, there are four dead Americans, and she doesn't think that at the very least the survivors might have needed some consoling after losing friends and coworkers in a tragic terrorist attack?

I still believe that the Obama administration including Hillary purposely stonewalled the Benghazi investigation until after the election was over so as not to jeopardize the outcome.

Hillary's "FBI excuse" sounds more like a person who waited four months to get their story straight in order to deflect any responsibility from her department and ultimately the president.

3) Hillary's feigned indignation when she bellowed the following statement is Oscar worthy. "With all due respect, the fact is we had four dead Americans. Whether it's because of a protest or whether a guy out for a walk decided to go kill some Americans, what difference at this point does it make?" Of course, the left loved her response, but it was nothing more than a well rehearsed calculated dodge.

Would Hillary have accepted an answer like that from Bill when presented with Monica's infamous blue dress? Just imagine Bill feeding Hillary this line. "Honey, Monica, Jennifer and Paula are all behind us, so what difference at this point does it make?"

Why should the American people have to accept that as a reason to excuse the administration for lying to us? Even after Hillary's testimony, the details of Benghazi still don't add up, and her emotional statement will be the sound bite played constantly to highlight Hillary's grit against those nasty Republicans. It sounds like Hillary doesn't mind a double standard if it helps her clean some skeletons out of her closet before a presidential run in 2016.

Ladies, you wouldn't put up with that from your husbands, and Hillary certainly didn't put up with it with Bill. Therefore why should the American people put up with it from Obama's administration? The answer to Hillary's question about what difference does it make is simple: The truth still matters.

Dear Mark: Just wanted to get your thoughts on President Obama's inauguration speech? — Jay in Indiana

Dear Jay: Inauguration speech?? I watched the president briefly on Monday and turned it off, thinking C-SPAN was rebroadcasting one of Obama's old campaign speeches. Oops, my bad.
