Dear Mark: CO2, Racial Rhetoric and PoetryDear Mark: The Obama administration has declared carbon dioxide a dangerous pollutant and is now giving the EPA the authorization to regulate the gas. This could have a devastating effect on businesses of all sizes and destroy our economy. Why is Obama rushing? — Breathing Body in Bakersfield Dear Breathing: There are several reasons for the rush. EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson spelled out one reason when she said, "The decision means that we arrive at the climate talks in Copenhagen with a clear demonstration of our commitment to facing this global challenge." Despite the fact that the United States is a leader when it comes to regulating pollution, President Obama still feels the need to bow down before the world as if we are the bad guys. The more sinister reason is that giving the EPA this kind of "command and control" circumvents Congress and centralizes even more power in Washington. Combine this action with the government takeover of the auto industry, banking and health care, and the tea partiers' opinion of Barack Obama is not so far-fetched. One positive aspect of this declaration is that the EPA can place a CO2 detector in the Capitol and force some of the worst emitters of CO2 to finally shut up. Dear Mark: Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is an idiot. He has now resorted to injecting racism into the health care debate, comparing Republicans to supporters of slavery in the 19th century. How can you possibly argue with these people? — Madder'n a Hornet in Hollow Creek Dear Madder: You can't really argue with liberals because in their universe there are no moral absolutes. The best strategy is to present the facts in a clear and concise format and then laugh at their stammering responses.
You failed to mention that Reid also compared health care reform opponents to the opponents of the civil rights movement and women's suffrage. I have mentioned this before, but it bears repeating. When liberals cannot contest the facts, they personally attack the opponent, and if that fails to turn public opinion, they play the race card. The senator's remarks illustrate the lib strategy perfectly and show that his health care plan is in trouble. By making these outrageous statements, the Nevada senator hopes to deflect attention away from the fact that not all Democrats are solidly behind the Senate version of health care reform. If Reid's proposal is so great, he simply needs to whip his own party into line before casting undignified aspersions upon others. Dear Mark: Al Gore's crusade to save the planet is the reason he is my hero. He has won the Nobel Peace Prize and an Academy Award for his efforts, and now his latest book contains what is sure to be an award-winning poem. Not only is this man brilliant, he is sensitive. What do you think? — Gah Gah for Gore in Gardendale Dear Gah Gah: Uh, gag me with a spoon comes to mind. Liberals are too much about symbolism over substance, and the former vice president's poetry is a perfect example of mushy goblety goop that won't save a single penguin's butt. In the event a poem might actually save the world, try this bit of Longfellow.=: There once was a man from Tennessee Who thought he knew more than you and me He made all his mills scaring people with global ills But he's just a rich hypocrite you see.
