Arizona Lawsuit, the New NASA and Deeming the BudgetDear Mark: This week, the Obama administration filed suit against the state of Arizona over its new immigration law. Is there something actually wrong with the new law, or is the president practicing politics to garner the Hispanic vote? — Fishy Smell in Bellville Dear Fishy: Your nostrils are picking up the odor of 100 percent pure politics. The government's actual lawsuit does not even allege any civil rights violations by Arizona, while Eric Holder and President Obama are publicly screaming racism as if it were 1964. I believe the reason is that Obama realizes the Arizona law closely mirrors the federal statute, but he needs to make the Arizona law appear racist in order to drum up some Hispanic votes this November. The major difference in the two laws is that Arizona officials will now be allowed to enforce the immigration laws in addition to federal agents. Seems to me the federal government would appreciate the help. Arizona is showing the spirit that made our country great by taking matters into their own hands. This "can do" attitude appears foreign to liberals who think that if the federal government can't do it, nobody can. I applaud Gov. Brewer and the state of Arizona for standing up to Washington and taking the bull by the horns in order to protect its own borders. Dear Mark: I am saddened by the diminished role NASA will play in our lives because of Obama's budget decisions. I remember watching the Apollo missions as a child and the pride I felt throughout my life because we were the leader in space exploration. Adding insult to injury, President Obama told the new NASA administrator the major objective of NASA is to reach out to the Muslim world. Have we entered some kind of inverse universe? — Danger Will Robinson Dear Danger: We have entered the touchy feely world of hope and change.
Mr. President, competition in science and technology is not a California kids' soccer game where no one keeps score. Why don't we just host a pizza party and give a trophy to every Muslim scientist so they will feel good? Oy vey! Dear Mark: The Democrat-controlled House of Representatives just "deemed as passed" a $1.12 trillion budget for 2011 that does not exist. The politicians in Washington are absolutely and arrogantly oblivious to the American people. Antics like these are what disgust the electorate. Can those jokers possibly get any more ridiculous? — Ticked Off in Tennessee Dear Ticked: Don't be surprised at how ridiculous things can get with Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and Barney Frank running the Capitol. Remember, there's still four months before the midterm elections. In reference to the deemed faux budget, one Republican budget staffer commented, "It does not set congressional priorities; it does not align overall spending, tax, deficit and debt levels; and it does nothing to address the runaway spending of federal entitlement programs." Wouldn't it be nice if Congress would actually do its job, even when it is difficult? Utilizing the same chicanery as Speaker Pelosi, I have deemed myself as having a full head of hair.
