Let me preface this commentary by saying I consider myself to be an evangelical Christian. I've been in this world of evangelical Christianity for more than 30 years.
I would also like to say that I believe only faithful Christians and Jews have a chance to save America from its precipitous decline — and I mean spiritually, culturally and economically.
But having said all that, I must tell you America's evangelical community is, what we called in the old days of Mao Zedong-style Communism, a "paper tiger."
It's spiritually confused and divided. It's been seduced by the world. It's biblically illiterate. It's like 2 Timothy 3:5 describes: "Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof."
It is not serving as salt and light in American culture and politics. It is not, as in the days leading up to and through the War of Independence, fighting for liberty — not even religious liberty.
Maybe the evangelical community has sold out for a 501(c)3 tax exemption like the official state-approved churches in China have sold out for safety and security.
How else can one explain a powerful voting bloc like this permitting Barack Hussein Obama to win re-election in 2012? How else can one explain the low voter turnout — and even registration numbers — among evangelicals? How does one explain the growing phenomenon with evangelicalism that doesn't even understand its spiritual connection with the nation of Israel and the Jewish faith? How does one explain evangelicals' unwillingness even to fight for religious freedom? And lastly, how does one explain the heartlessness of the body of evangelicals in turning its back on the massive persecution and ethnic cleansing of Christians throughout the world, particularly in Islamic countries?
I know there are many evangelicals who share my passion for truth, justice and liberty and are as puzzled as I am about the stunning silence of the corporate church and the pastors who lead it.
Do they not see the connection between serving God and serving mankind?
Do they think their job is serving God and government's job is serving mankind?
Have their seminaries done such an awful job that the leadership of the church is as pathetic and uninspired as the political leadership of the country? Are they just plain afraid to speak out? Or do they not understand the precarious position of America in 2013?
Not only are we in jeopardy of losing our liberty, but we are losing it because we are under God's judgment.
Can someone name one prominent evangelical leader who has spoken up boldly and fearlessly in opposition?
Sodom and Gomorrah could have been saved if there were 10 righteous men left in those cities.
Because, as God tells us in 2 Chronicles 7:14, he is willing to heal our land if only the people who are called by his name turn from their sin, humble themselves, pray and seek his face.
Could it be the evangelical community in the U.S. is not following that simple prescription?
I guess the most astonishing thing about the impotence of the evangelical community is why it is still so feared and vilified by the world.
Why is it ridiculed and derided? Why is it demeaned by the media and the political class? Why should anyone be afraid of evangelicals — even God's enemies?
I hate to generalize, but let's face it: Not to be disrespectful, but this is a group that is too heavenly bound to do any earthly good.

Sir;... Talk about hitting your head with a hammer... Are you not correct about the evangelicals???...Having the form of godliness, but gathering wealth and political power unto themselves... Denying the truth of science and running off to the doctor when sick, and blogging with other Christians when well... If they believed they would believe; and act accordingly as slaves of Christ, but they do not believe in anything but slavery, and they are jealous of the free, and want all tied with the same cord...
There is no proper expression for hypocrite such as the word in ancient times conveyed... Christian is almost synonymous with hypocrite... They are so vain, so money hungry, so self serving, so abusive of others for power that it is enough to make anyone who tries to believe in God sick in the stomach... If all you had was the mendicant friars of the middle ages to base your opinion on; would you not consider the church a collection of perverts and criminals??? If these people who knew best their own religion had no faith in it, nor sense of the value of their eternal souls, how could they teach other than self satisfaction??? Well your evangelicals are of the same mold...
They may broadcast on television, but deny the science that makes it work... No one calls them on this contradiction or on any of their manifold contradictions... Perhaps they feel as the devout Muslim, that to take up the tools of satan to deliver themselves from evil is not a contradiction; but in my order of events, I put nothing before my own salvation... I will do what I can for any human being but preach to them and offer advice...I will tell the world that before I lift a finger to secure the perfection of any person I will write for my own...
All your people using the power they have to make life worse for others, to abuse people, to rob them of their rights are playing the devils hand as their own... It was wrong for our government to allow the privilages they did to the churches... First of all; they could not stop belief, but belief against oppression is the greatest and purest exercise of faith... Christians were better when they were lion food, and the pressure put them on their best behavior...Now, when they make meat of all nations, and feed off of every table they are no more welcome to dinner than a crap eating fly...
Our government delivered the slaves into perpetual bondage with the same device that they delivered the Christians to their churches... That is, the government made itself constitutionally unable to interfere with religions which made it entirely possible for the religions to interfere with people and their government... Same with the slave owners, and the owners of other property, that when the government refused to govern them, the way was clear for them to govern government...The process of government should be mutual, so that all people involved with government should be governed so they cannot set government on a course which injures others but leaves them free of injury...
The churches have often maintained a course of action that has injured America that they were kept free of, or benefitted from... They have too often encouraged war; but primarily in advocating poverty which put so many at their mercy, and by keeping so many in absolute ignorance even while technically educated, they kept their flocks obedient and willing, stupid and poor...
The churches have never had to pay a cent for the trouble they have caused this country... Look at how the South went to war egged on by preachers who gave that rebellion the flavor of martyrdom, but there was little enough of resistence to slavery from the churches in the North... All these preachers seeing the good of the people in the profit of a few are not far wrong...With profit goes our morality... With poverty comes our immorality until the whole of society dies of immorality mingled with contradictions...
The churches have always made up the constitution of society from our Anglo-Saxon history, and it laid bare all people to exploitation, and left them weak and open to invasion... Even when free of the Norse, the Anglo-Saxons were weak before the Normans; but they were good Christians, serving their Gods and their lords with equal fealty...
If we will ever be free it is because we have made ourselves free of religion in our government... We need to act in our own defense and in the defense of our freedom before it is forever lost... What ever power the churches may exercise over their own is fine, but these people cannot govern themselves, and should not govern us...Government is the place were rational people should meet to plan for, and adapt to the future...It is no place for people who publicly reject reason in preference to faith, to magic, and to unreasoned fear... Enough of government quaking before the power of the faithful... Let the faithful mind their manors and guard their rights as they have made others so often do...
Thanks...Sweeney

Sir;... Consider the possibility that some of those flocks have the sense to look at their paycheck, and look at their clothes and cars, and look at the quality of people they have elected as urged to by their preachers, and realize they have been had, used, put upon, abused as stupid, and robbed as if blind...There are many good people who believe as they have grown up believing, and believe as well in the God given equality of all humanity, who cannot be spured on by racist rhetoric to vote against a man simply because he is black and a democrat, especially when only a stick man could be put before them as an alternative...
What do you think when you see some toothless, raggedy butt hick in a rust bucket loaded with pro-Christian, and anti Obama bumper stickers all over it???... God is certainly good to them, and so are the republicans...
I voted for George Bush the lesser just by deliberately not voting for Al Gore; and I no more than did it than wished I hadn't... No one could be that bad at being president without studying at it...He was elected because people found out how to yank the chain of the evangelicals, and that chain has been so often yanked that only the most stupid among them will come without a fight... You are still in control in many places; but these people are voting for nulification, for resistence to government having no alternative to government...If these good Christians who very often are good people have figured out they were being used by a party caring absolutely nothing for them, or their interests, then all the better for them... Waking up is never as nice as sleeping, but it is necessary to fully enjoy ones rest... It is time for Christian America to wake up, and reject the nonsense that is killing this nation...
