Tear Up Your AARP CardsI haven't agreed with Sen. John McCain much throughout his career. I didn't support him in his presidential bid in 2008 — having infamously authored the book "None of the Above," for which I make no apologies. But McCain has hit a new high-water mark politically in recent days. — He pointed out what most Americans perceive as obvious, at this point, that the massacre at Fort Hood could have been prevented had "political correctness" not prevented action against the Islamic extremist who murdered 14 and injured dozens of others. — He accused Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of a "criminal scheme" in pushing through his plan to nationalize health care. — But, most of all, I liked what he had to say when he urged seniors to tear up their membership cards for the American Association of Retired Persons because of the organization's support of socialized medicine. I haven't been so proud of McCain since he attacked Hillary Clinton's plan to use taxpayer funds to build a Woodstock museum. He reminded Americans that he couldn't be present at Woodstock because he was "tied up." Maybe McCain is talking tough these days because he finds himself tied in a bid just to secure the Republican nomination for re-election to his Senate seat in Arizona. Former Rep. J.D. Hayworth, now a Phoenix radio host, could give him a run for his money. Fully 61 percent of Republicans in that state believe he has lost touch with his constituency. But I can and do support McCain's call for tearing up those AARP cards. It's time for all Americans to shut down that phony, fraudulent operation once and for all. This is not a group that is looking out for the interests of retirees. It's an organization that is promoting socialism.
So tear up those cards. Call the AARP and let the group know you don't want anything to do with it anymore. Write to the AARP and let their officials know you will not give them a dime in the future. Stop those magazines from entering your house. Denounce AARP at every turn. Say goodbye and watch the group wither and die. Let them know they don't represent your interests. Why would AARP do this? The answer is simple — money. This is not, as you might have believed, a group that gets most of its revenue from memberships. Instead, it is an organization in the pocket of insurance companies that stand to profit handsomely from the government takeover of health care. AARP received $249 million from membership dues last year, but received a whopping $653 million in royalties from insurers referred by AARP. The government-run health care scheme being debated in the Senate right now would leave Americans with two choices for medical insurance — one is the so-called "public option" and the other is "Medigap." Medigap is the same insurance cartel that bought and paid for AARP. AARP also got $18 million in stimulus money from the federal government. Do you get the picture? This isn't about your interest. This is about self-interest. This is about the financial interests of the AARP. So don't participate. Don't be part of the con game. Tear up those AARP cards and mail them back. Don't even think about renewing your membership. There's much more to the hideous story of AARP. Anyway, this time, for once I'm on the same page as McCain: Dump the AARP.
