Call it Carbonhagen

Sometimes it's difficult to accuse liberals of hypocrisy because they don't believe in standards — or, at least, the standards are always changing. But not so with the climate alarmists like those meeting in Copenhagen this week.

There they are — the elite of the world — making pronouncements about the way the rest of us have to live in the future: No big cars and trucks. No more power plants. No more refineries. It will be a future of windmills and solar panels as far as the eye can see.

Somehow people will make their money trading carbon credits and in illusory "green jobs." In matters of man-made, catastrophic climate change, they have set the standards.

But is that how they live? Not by the looks of what we see in Copenhagen — or is it Carbonhagen?

The London Telegraph reports at least 1,200 limousines have been booked for the occasion — only five of them electric or hybrids vehicles. There aren't enough limos in all of Denmark to meet the demand. They are coming in from Germany and Sweden — driven hundreds of miles for the convenience of the international cartel of carbon cops.

But that's not all. The airport is expecting the arrival of 140 additional private jets during the peak period of the global climate change convention. There's not enough room for them all to park in Copenhagen, so they will have to be flown to Sweden and then fly back for return flights.

Nobody is walking. Nobody is riding a bicycle. Nobody is living the lifestyle they insist on compelling us to live.

All told, the Telegraph reports, the 11-day convention will create a total of 41,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide — equal to the amount produced by a major city in the same time period.

In other words, they're not going to allow their grave concerns for the planet to affect their own comfort — not even for a few days, not even for show.

Furthermore, there will be no accountability for the actions taken at Copenhagen. Instead of setting modest goals for carbon reduction in, say, the next five years, the convention is expected to demand dramatic reductions — some say up to 80 percent — in the next 40 years. Of course, who will remember? Who will be around to accept failure?

But it's not about results. It's not even about a real crisis. It's about feeling good about making demands on others and imposing draconian rules that are in and of themselves the real goal. It's about creating a scenario in which people like Al Gore and Barack Obama can be honored for their courage and foresight without sacrificing anything themselves.

There's a name for that. It's hypocrisy with a capital H.

I can't help, but I can point out some 5,000 journalists have been credentialed for the convention. Only one news organization that we know of has been denied — World Net Daily. Ironically, our senior staff writer would not have arrived on a private jet. He would not have had a limousine pick him up at his hotel.

He would have merely been there to report to the world the life-changing, world-shaking events that are billed for Copenhagen this week. He, unlike most of the other correspondents, would have done so skeptically, honestly and truthfully. And that's why he was denied access to the convention altogether.

Welcome to the New World Order. This is the way it will be if these hypocrites ever do get their way and break down national sovereignty, defy the rule of law and undermine the will of the people to shape their own destiny.

We're getting a glimpse of the future in Carbonhagen — it is not pretty and it is not hopeful.
