Why I'm Adopting Sandra Fluke

"Government," says Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., "is simply the name we give to the things we choose to do together." This, of course, is eminently untrue — we do plenty of things together that don't involve the government, thank God. One can only imagine how dull and dreary our sex lives would be if they had to run through a DMV-style bureaucracy.

But this foolish liberal meme has value. It does carry a grain of truth: government represents us. Without us, there is no government. More to the point, without our money, there are no government programs.

That's why, this week, I decided to adopt Sandra Fluke.

Now, you may remember Fluke from her dismal performance before the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee. Fluke, you'll recall, was a Georgetown law student who just happened to be a professional activist. And she stated that she wanted Georgetown, a Catholic school, to pay for her contraceptives, since "contraception can cost a woman over $3,000 during law school." In the end, third parties would end up paying for part of Fluke's YAZ prescription, since Obamacare's strictures are subsidized by individual mandates.

Fluke was back this week. This time, she wanted taxpayers to cover more of her student loans. She tweeted, "#DontDoubleMyRate. Many students will see the interest rate on Fed #StudentLoans increase if Congress doesn't act by 7/1."

She not only wants me to pay for her pills, she wants me to pay for her student loans.

So here's my logic: If I'm going to pay for Sandra Fluke's birth control and student loans, I may as well adopt her for the tax write-off.

Now, if I do adopt Fluke — and she'll presumably have a say in the matter — there will be some strings attached. See, when you're asking for cash from the "government," there are no obligations connected with those benefits.

But if you're asking me for an allowance, you will be asked to do chores. My wife is busy in medical school, and I'm working. So if Fluke wants an allowance for her birth control, she can start by doing the laundry. At least then, my wife and I will get something out of the deal.

This is not a sexist request — believe it or not, plenty of men do the laundry. I'm one of them. But if Fluke feels it's too degrading to do our laundry in exchange for her pills and loan subsidies, she can pick another household chore she likes better; both men and women do household chores, at least where I come from. If government is just a name for the things we choose to do together, Sandra Fluke can choose whether to wash my dishes or balance my checkbook.

No doubt there are some who find this arrangement insulting. But it is significantly less insulting than an arrangement whereby Fluke gets something for nothing. She is not a member of my family; it is not my obligation to give her money out of some sort of kinship. She's not performing any services for me; it's not my obligation to give her money out of any sort of fairness consideration. If Fluke wants to be left to her own devices, she can damn well take her hand out of my wallet.

The truth is that capitalism, not government, is the name of the things we choose to do together. I choose to pay somebody to wash my car; that person chooses to wash my car in exchange for the cash. Government has become a name for the things we choose to leverage from one another without their consent.

So here's the deal, Sandra. I'll consent to paying for some of your expenses if I get to claim you as a dependent on my tax return. Until then, stay out of my life, and stop pretending that you have the moral authority to deplete my bank account.

You're such a smug, superior idiot. Not only is an advanced education out of reach for the majority of students and their families unless they agree to the ridiculously bloated costs in the form of student loans, you'll then object when someone doesn't want the interest rate that was set at the time of the loan to double. Are you so completely callow that you're unable to grasp that she or any student has the right to object to having their interest rates double on their bloated student loans to support the runaway economics and lack of oversight brought about during the spending and fraud of the Bush/Cheney years? Or is it all about you?

How about you talk about adopting Sandra Fluke and I talk about adopting the heartless Dick Cheney. You know, the 71 yr old scared of dying, had to buy a used heart with his ill gotten money, ex VP.
Early on in the Bush Administration, the Bush Transition Energy Advisory Team was tasked with formulating national energy policy. Numerous industry executives met with Vice President Dick Cheney.
Cheney, who had been CEO of the energy company Haliburton in the years immediately prior to his run for office, had close ties to industry insiders, representing a possible conflict of interest. Shortly after the Bush Energy Task Force met, the Enron scandal erupted, calling into question the value of whatever advice the Bush Administration had received from industry executives.
When Cheney was asked for details about his involvement with the Energy Task Force, he refused to disclose any documents, citing "executive privilege".

Years later, when Cheney's office was suspected of disclosing the identity of an undercover CIA agent to retaliate against her husband for criticizing the Administration, Cheney took a different approach.
To avoid disclosing how his office handled classified information, Cheney maintained that his office was NOT part of the "executive" branch, since the Vice President is also President of the Senate.
"The Vice President of the United States shall be President of the Senate, but shall have no Vote, unless they be equally divided."
Source: US Constitution Article 1 Section 3

Since nobody has investigated Cheney's actions in detail, it would seem he gets to have it both ways.

Isn't that what you accuse Sandra Fluke of doing, having it both ways? Amazing that the actions of a Vice President who reaped obscene profits from an illegal war he helped instigate, deliberately downplayed the very real financial costs of it, had a healthy hand in ruining our economy but got his money out before the crash, then both claimed "executive" branch privilege and when convenient, denied being part of the "executive" branch so he wouldn't have to disclose his shady dealings.

This is not objectionable to you, but a student objecting to having her student loan interest rates doubled is portrayed by a Harvard grad as a ploy to get taxpayers to pay her student loans and bothers you enough to write your silly nonsense. Maybe your wife and you lack the courage to take a stand AGAINST anything. Just go along to get along. Maybe neither of you has what it takes to protest except in the safety of your column. Maybe you're just that insipid. Maybe you should ask Harvard for a refund of your tuition. They took your money but didn't teach you a thing.
Or maybe Mr. Sweeney is right. Just another republican talking about his sex life.

Re: Steve;... Well it is true... If they are not talking about immorality, and almost always sexual immoraltiy where they say they hate the sin and not the sinner, then they are talking about money as though avarice were not a deadly sin; but their favorite fetish... They may make use of this Columbian prostitution scandal to damn the president and the democrat party, but I think they really shiver in titilation...

Look at these republican dweebs... If they did not have money they would be looking at a sex life in a used magazine... Money is an aphrodiasiac to them, but the reality for people, for real people is terribly sad... Where there is economic injustice there is sexual injustice; wealth is sexy, and poverty, illness, disease, despair, and malaise are unattractive...Do not concern yourselves dear republicans with all the drama, the art, the music, the joy of life that is lost with every life denied some measure of hope and fulfilment... If every begger on the street had once a lion's heart, or the soul of a poet, or the will of a champion that became mired in defeat and want of progress; then what is that to you??? More than one who might have saved the world if he could have saved himself with help has fallen by the way; and that is tough luck for him...That is just business...

If you want to talk about love, then talk about money... If you are talking about sex with them; then that is just one of the things they can buy with money, if they have money... They don't hate the sin... They love the sin and wish they could part with more of love for it...They envy the sinner, and punish the sinner because what they must pay for the poor get for free; or so it seems... When it gets to the point where sex and drugs are the only things you can do for fun, then neither feels much like fun... Thanks...Sweeney

Ben, don't let the Libs hurt your "feelings". When facts get in the way, all they can do is name call and try to support their pet issues with bogus "facts" and heartfelt hatred; much of which dosen't even pertain to the subject at hand. So much for the love, peace and lets all get along bullshit.

Keep on spreading the truth Ben, and I will keep laughing at the stupid comments.

I guess you missed out on that advanced education yourself.

The interest rates on existing student loans are NOT going to "double." Student loan interest rates are fixed. Whatever the rate was when you signed the form is what it will be until you pay it off. The only way it changes is if you consolidate the loans and refinance them, usually at a lower rate.

The only interest rates affected by this legislation are those for FUTURE loans.

Your little rant about Cheney was amusing, but irrelevant to the cost of college tuition. If you really want to see tuition prices come down, here's the way to do it: End the federal student loan program entirely. The only reason tuition is so high in the first place is because colleges know that all it takes to borrow the money is a signature.

If the loan program ended tomorrow, it's true that probably 80% of the incoming freshman class this fall at most schools wouldn't show up. And guess what would happen in the spring semester? Tuition rates would be cut in half.

Re: Chris McCoy;... I am certain that many Liberals are angry, and as angry as many of the reactionaries who usually think they are the only ones who are angry, and that only their anger is justified...The reactionaries are mad like the Ante-bellum south was made, and just as unjustly so... They feel the injustice that has been their profit is threatened, and they blame all the non producers eating up all their capital like Joseph's thin cows ate the fat...Live with it... Expect it; because it is not the thin cows no matter how numerous who are eating your wealth...

The unpatriotic rich are exporting all our capital at the same time that they are throwing all former workers onto the street as unnneeded...As much as they can, they hold their wealth out of the way of taxation, and then they deny even the right of the government to tax... At least in the old days the rich paid for their control of government with taxation... When it became possible for them to make the poor pay for a government unresponsive to them, they must have jumped for joy...But the more people the rich drive into poverty by one means or another the more mouths it must feed out of its wealth, or suffer redistribution...

This is our land, but it is not our government; not yet... This is a commonwealth, and it does not matter to me if every inch of land and wealth were put into pivate hands so long as those private people realize that the country must still support the population if in every hand, or if only in a few...We hold the title to this land and bought it with our blood and the blood of our enemies...Your pitiful concept of private property is not worth the virtual paper it is printed on... Property rights have always been in flux...What the rich have wanted they have taken with law, or bought under duress... It does not make their property free and clear, but only makes the law illegitimate...

Public property privatized must pay taxes, or be returned to the commonwealth...And it has nothing to do with Socialism... It is a simple exchange of support of government by wealth, and support by government of private wealth out of the commonwealth...If they do not want to pay taxes, and leave the poor to starve, they are only cutting their own throats...Thanks...Sweeney

If you don't pay taxes, the poor will starve? Is that what you're saying? So its the governments job to feed the poor? Sadly its becoming that way as it is creating laws that stifle local charities. I have worked for food kitchens and donated much money to charities that support needy people and they do it a heck of a lot better than the government ever could. I'm not against helping these people. I'm against relying on the government to do it and taking all the credit and putting these people in a cycle of dependancy.

Re: Chris McCoy;... Absolutely it is the job of government to feed the poor; but more essentially it is to govern this nation for the benefit of the nation, which is the people... They are of that class of people who believe capital in serving itself serves everyone though the evidence is wide spread and obvious that this is not the case, that instead, capital leaves a wasteland of closed factories, old and disabled people, along with the poor and uneducated left to find their way with no visible means of support...

For the profit of the few this nation has seen its capital flee to foreign lands and this land built upon exports turned into an importing nation that drains us of wealth... We have no choice in the matter... Our government is not our government, and was created by the wealthy to serve their purposes, and the only difference between then and now is that the people have even less representation, and pay more for it... No taxation without representation should be our war cry...

The government expects the middle classes to pay for the poor dispossed of, and dispossessed by the rich... The government should remind the rich that this is a commonwealth, and the commonwealth even in private hands must support the population, and should support them well, or be turned over to them... The many poor are poor because our rich are so impossibly rich, and they have taken that wealth out of us and out of this country which is our common property...

If they think they own this land without obligation they are fooled by their own nonsense...Even the Roman Commonwealth had its corn dole, and the want of the population brought tyranny to all... That is what the rich only think they want, because ultimately Caesar did not work for either class, but only prolongued the demise of each... What we need is democracy and revolution if this society will renew itself and find new life... This wealth amid poverty, this constant defense of and attack against our rights, the export of our industry and technology is laying bare our jugular veins to the razors of our many enemies...Our rich hate democracy and every good this nation of people ever stood for and fought for... For now; they should pay; but survival in poverty is no substitute for honorable revolution... Let our rich die so we may live...Let capital be bound so we may live free... Thanks...Sweeney

Well it seems our ways of thinking are at the total opposite ends of the spectrum. And not the political spectrum, I think our differences have more to do with freedom than anything else. You would probably really enjoy living in Europe, if you don't already.

Re: Chris McCoy;... Don't be a joke... All these notions of private property and government created to benefit the rich are strangling this people and this nation, holding us back, and reducing the population to serfs... It does no good for the tea party to get mad at the left, and blame the poor they end up supporting... It does no good for the left to blame the right for wanting to deny the social safety net... I wish it was all for us white folks just like many others, but for a cheap profit many people have cut holes in the fense, and let in strangers who now want their piece of the pie... Let the rich who have ended up with everything support all those they have caused to be thrown on to the street... If they want to build factories and infrastructure one place and leave every thing behind to move to greener pastures let them support what was built for them or seize their factory, if they try to move it... All this land is ours...We can afford to let the rich run things as they wish until they start running right over the top of us, and that is what they are doing... Take back your country or die trying...Thanks... Sweeney... Unless you have found a way to compete with slaves without becoming a slave...That is...

Nothing you have ever wrote leads me to believe you want to take back control. You can't take back control by giving more of it to government. That is the real joke. I want real freedoms in this country. Property rights, gun rights, and the ability to keep the fruits of your labor. How do we get there? I have thoughts, but since this country hasen't been free in a long time no one can say how we untangle our current mess.

Sir McCoy;... Our constitution holds the government powerless to deal with the privilages of the rich...But it does have the power to tax, and so retrieve the commonwealth And that was fine when there was too much country for the rich to swallow on without choking... Well; now they have pretty well choked it down with the help of the government...This government has always taxed less than other Western democracies because it supports the safety net approach rather than the social justice approach...Now business wants to deny the country even that... Well; who has been saved more often by government from their own excesses than business??? Shall it not be free to save the citizen from destruction as well???

Business has exported our capital and put us into the position of importing what we once produced...Can you say that we can fight our next war of survival with what we have left of productive capacity??? If we cannot defend ourselves then the rich need to be taxed out of government, and the government should be replaced with a new form with the power to govern industry because if we do not, we can clearly see, that business will govern us, and waste our lives in the process... Thanks

You act like the government is protecting us from big bussiness. News flash: They are teaming up with big bussiness to screw us and keep us as "serfs". Even the editor of the New York Times recently came to this realization. Of course most people have know this for years. This congress engages in legalized bribery every day. And they are the only people who can change the system. Thats like redesigning the chicken coop and hiring the foxes to do it. The middle class is being screwed by the rich and powerful, we can agree on that much, but I don't think you've come to the realization that government is part of those rich and powerful.

Ben said:
Government has become a name for the things we choose to leverage from one another without their consent.

Not true because it misses the historical context in which our government was instituted: the Lockean tradition, which was largely concerned with property, held property as subject to regulation by the state. “Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness” is a repurposing of Locke's “life, liberty, and property.” In his Second Treatise on Civil Government, Locke wrote:

(se. 120) “it would be a direct contradiction, for any one to enter into society with others for the securing and regulating of property; and yet to suppose his land, whose property is to be regulated by the laws of the society, should be exempt from the jurisdiction of that government, to which he himself, the proprietor of the land, is a subject.”

Friedrich Hayek‘s “free market” program, spelled out in The Road to Serfdom (in which he also voiced opposition to laissez-faire capitalism), is quite compatible with a public health care system. After noting that “The functioning of a competition not only requires adequate organization of certain institutions like money, markets, and channels of information — some of which can never be adequately provided by private enterprise” (38) he asserts that “there can be no doubt that some minimum of food, shelter, and clothing, sufficient to preserve health and the capacity to work, can be assured to everybody” (120).
He continues:
“Nor is there any reason why the state should not assist the individuals in providing for the common hazards of life against which, because of their uncertainty, few individuals can make adequate provision. Where, as in the case of sickness and accident, neither the desire to avoid such calamities nor the efforts to overcome their consequences are as a rule weakened by the provision of assistance — where, in short, we deal with genuinely insurable risks — the case for the state's helping to organize a comprehensive system of social insurance is very strong” (121).

The support of low taxes is predicated on the assumption that this is money taken away from citizens to be wasted by the government. This is short-sighted in the extreme. When the government takes in money in taxes, it spends it, circulates it. Corporations and wealthy CEO's, on the other hand, do take money out of circulation. They put their surplus profits in banks, so banks can turn around and create more money through the fractional reserve system, which leads to inflation, which harms typical workers who have seen wages stagnate even as worker productivity has steadily increased. But corporations and wealthy individuals who invest their money aren't spending it; they aren't contributing to the “real economy” the way government does when it allocates revenues.

Citizens benefit from government spending. The west was not won by strong individualists in combat with the wilderness; the west was won through government subsidies promoting the expansion of railroads, the telegraph, and through land grants. The westward expansion was the government-subsidized expansion of new technology. Government Subsidized. New Technology.

By GDP, one third of government spending is dedicated to the armed forces. This is a continuation of our oldest subsidy program: national security. Since World War II, the permanent war economy has required a certain type of economic growth; during the Cold War, this took the form of planned obsolescence, which served the function of battlefield attrition in the context of a war without fighting. A large military provides important technological subsidies that the economics of growth capitalism require.

While there is plenty to criticize about fractional reserve banking, a return to a commodity based currency like the gold standard is not a viable solution. The value of a currency tied to the price of gold can easily be manipulated by wealthy individuals or organizations hoarding the available supply, leveraging scarcity to their advantage.
Where fractional reserve banking creates opportunities for abuse, the solution is increased government regulation which puts limits on how much money banks are able to create, and under what circumstances.
Increased government regulation.

We agree our current government is a problem, but conservatives and libertarians have the wrong diagnosis and consequently the wrong prescription. They would never cite rising divorce rates as evidence that the institution of marriage should be abolished, but this is just the approach they take to government. They inadequately identify the specific dynamics that have led our government to become so grossly dysfunctional.

Mr. McCoy, Mr. Sweeney and I already know where we agree and where we differ. You'll need to form your own decision as to whether or not I agree. My comments and Mr. Sweeney's are in depth with facts and conclusions grounded on history, research, and truth. You seem to have read many if not all of our comments, use your own critical thinking to determine if we agree and where, and most important, find where you agree and disagree. To respond to your second question, again, I will not do your thinking or research for you. The answers are out there and even easier to find with internet and www. Whether Mr. Sweeney and I agree is irrelevant to any but us. I will tell you, agree or disagree, I respect all his arguments and the years of real work it has taken for him to develop those arguments and his opinion.

My Name is Ms. lizzy I was married to my husband for 13 years and we were both bless with three children, living together as one love, until 2010 when things was no longer the way the was [when he lost his job]. But when he later gets a new job 6 months after, he stated sleeping outside our matrimonial home. Only for me to find out that he was having an affair with the lady that gave he the job. since that day, when I called him, he don't longer pick up my calls and he don't want to see me around him and he also deleted me from his face book account.
I reported him to TOM SPRINGER ON NATIONAL TV [MESSYLY AFFAIRS], I did many things all just to see if I can just get my husband but nothing since to come out good. Yet my husbands just still keep on seeing the lady.
Until I met a very good friend of my who was also having a similar problem, who introduced me to a very good love spell caster. But I told her that if it has to do with things that I am not interested, but she said that it has nothing to do with pay first. But the only thing he was ask to do was just to go and buy the items to cast the spell, and that was what she did. And she gave me the spell caster e-mail address and phone number.
When I contacted him, I was so surprise when he said that if I have the faith that I will get my husband back in the nest four [4] day, and off which it was really so. My name is mary snoop I live in USA, . My husband and I have been living a very happy and lovely life. So as time went on, I began to notice this strange attitude that he was possessing. He was now having another girl friend called jane, to the extent that he was no longer picking up my calls, and he was not even sleeping in my house anymore because of this new girl friend. I became confused and didn't know what to do . So i became worried and stranded, , because I have never experienced a thing like this before in my life.
So I decided to visit a spell caster online, to see if he can help me out. So immediately I went to the internet, where I saw an amazing testimony of a spell caster who brought someone's ex lover back, so I email him immediately and I explained to him all my problems and immediately he reply to me that it will be very easy for him to solve, i have been helping people a situation like the one i have. And he also gave me some proof to be really sure of his work, and he assured me that my husband will come back to me immediately he is through with the spell casting. And also he told me to put all my trust in him, and I really believe him.
So it was 9:00 am on the next morning, when I was about going to work, when i received my husband's call, and he told me that he was coming back home , and he apologized to me, and told me that he is very sorry for the pain that he has cost me. And after some minutes later, he really came back home, and that was how we continued our marriage with lots of love and happiness again, and our love was now stronger than how it were before.
And he also told me that once my heart desire has been granted unto me that i should go and testify of his work right here on the internet. Right now I am the happiest woman on earth today as I am writing this testimony, and I want to really thank " Dr odudumoyoyo" for bringing back my husband, and for bringing joy and love to my life.
my advice for you out there who your husband or your wife is acting strange or behaving the same way like this, or you have any problem with your relationship or anything related to do with spell casting, is for you to go and visit this, and i assure you that he will be of help to you, and I am 90% sure that he will solve it out.
Thank Dr odudumoyoyo

I am Miss Lucy Hollywood., From united states of America.I will start by saying to all that have experience heart break and also cant do with out there lover should please stop here and read up my story, So as you will know how to go solving or getting your ex back from this spell caster..AND AGAIN I WILL WANT TO ALSO TELL ALL THAT THIS SPELL CASTER I WILL WANT TO TELL THE WHOLE WORLD ABOUT IS HARMLESS AND DO NOT HAVE ANY SIDE EFFECT, BUT TO RESTORE AND GIVE YOU BACK WHAT YOU DESERVE, COS WHEN I MEET WITH THIS SPELL CASTER THAT WAS INTRODUCED TO ME BY THE WIFE OF MY BOSS IN MY WORKING PLACE, HE MADE IT CLEAR THAT HE CAN CAST SPELL ON SO MANY OTHER PROBLEMS EXCEPT IN GETTING YOUR EX OR MAKING YOUR LOVER TO LOVE YOU MORE THAT WILL SUITE YOU. Last year December, My lover was cheating on me and was not also give me the attention that a man should give to a woman,And really that was troubling my mind and tearing my heart apart to the extent that i was not concentrating in the office the way i use to before the break up by my lover. And before that incident,I always see how my boss use to love his wife so much. I was binging to think that i was not doing the right thing to him that will make him love me forever,So i really gathered my courage and went to my boss wife office to ask her the secret that made her husband love her so dearly,In the first place she refused in telling me,She asked me why i am asking her such a question,That if is it not normal for every man to love his wife.I told her the reason that made me ask her about this question,That my lover started cheating on me lately,When i knelt down before her for her to see my seriousness in this issue that i went to ask her,She opened up to me by telling me that i should not tell anybody about what she want to tell me,The wife to my boss started to say to me that she used a very powerful spell on his husband to love her,And the spell that she used is harmless, But the spell is just to make him love her and never to look for any other woman except her. I QUICKLY ASK HER HOW DID SHE GET TO KNOW THIS GREAT,POWER,DURABLE AND PERFECT WORK SPELL CASTER,she said that a friend of hers also introduce her to him. Then i also ask her how i can meet with this spell caster.SHE SAID EVERYTHING TO ME,THAT THE NAME OF THIS SPELL CASTER IS Dr. DAHIRU TEMPLE. My next question to her was how can i get this wonderful spell caster,She said she is going to give me the email of the spell caster for me to contact him for my problem,Really she gave to me this spell caster email and i contacted him and explained all to him,And after every thing that needed to be done by the spell caster, In the next two days, My lover that hated me so much came to house begging for forgiveness and i was so glad that i have finally gotten my heart desire..I was so grateful to this spell caster for what he has done for my life.. So i made a promise to him that i will always continue telling the world about his wonderful work towards me and also to other that came to you before and also the people that will also get to you from my story that i narrated online now.. I will want to say to the entire world that you should not cry over noting again, That there is a great man that has been helping individuals to restore there Joy and smile in there faces !! The direct email to get this man is : This is what i want to tell you all out there,That is thinking that all hope is lost ok..Thanks
