We Love Cagney! Fan Letters Pour in for Deering and Newcombe's Zack Hill
Since his arrival a little over a year ago, the character of Cagney has been an overwhelming fan favorite of the already popular comic strip Zack Hill, by John Deering and John Newcombe. According to Deering, the quirky canine first appeared in the strip when Zack's friend Mort gave him the dog because Mort's mother was allergic to Cagney.
A recent deluge of letters and emails indicates a growing "Cagney craze" among fans of all ages. "We love Cagney!" exclaims one email. Further accolades were rained on Deering and Newcombe with these words: "Dear John and John, outstanding comic strip! Simply hilarious … that dog Cagney and his thoughts are outrageous. You are both doing super, thanks for bringing laughter to my day."
Newcombe and Deering, who are both powerhouses in their own right -- Deering as a distinguished editorial cartoonist and artist, Newcombe as an acclaimed writer and film director -- continue to team up beautifully on the popular comic.
