Mike Luckovich displays original collection of art in Atlanta

Pulitzer prize-winning editorial cartoonist Mike Luckovich is currently exhibiting an original collection of his work at the TEW gallery in Atlanta, Georgia. Luckovich, who once sold life insurance to make ends meet, has since earned a place as one of the country's most highly regarded and widely distributed commentators.
The TEW exhibition takes his work outside the usual newspaper medium and is a first for Luckovich. He tells the TEW magazine in a recent interview that he "appreciate[s] that Timothy [President of the gallery] recognizes that the art form of cartooning is an important one." The exhibition began on October 12 and will continue until November 6.
In the interview Luckovich also discusses his creative process and the role that humor has to play in political commentary: "I have strong feelings about what's happening in the world and how President Bush is conducting his presidency. My first inclination is to start screaming hysterically, but I realize the way to get people to pay attention to what I'm saying is by using humor. So I try to make strong points in a funny way."
