Rubes Animation in Newport Beach Film Festival
INDEPENDENT FEATURE “MOOLA” PREMIERES AT THE NEWPORT BEACH FILM FESTIVAL, DIRECTED BY DON MOST (HAPPY DAYS), FEATURING ANIMATED HIGHLIGHTS BY SYNDICATED CARTOONIST LEIGH RUBIN, CREATOR OF THE POPULAR CARTOON PANEL ‘RUBES.’

Newport Beach, California (April, 2007) – MOOLA, a comedy/drama starring William Mapother (IN THE BEDROOM, LORDS OF DOGTOWN) and Daniel Baldwin (PAPARRAZI), will have its world premiere at the Newport Beach Film Festival on Friday, April 20, 7:30pm, featured in the “Friday Night Showcase Series” at the Regency Lido Theatre. Cast also includes Treat Williams (MS. CONGENIALITY 2: ARMED AND DANGEROUS), Efren Ramirez (NAPOLEAN DYNAMITE), Charlotte Ross (NYPD Blue), Curtis Armstrong (RAY), Annabelle Gurwitch (DADDY DAY CARE) and Doug Hutchison (THE GREEN MILE/THE SALTON SEA).

Popular syndicated cartoonist Leigh Rubin fashions his famous cow cartoon strip RUBES specifically for this film in a very witty and creative opening sequence, that ties in the films title MOOLA and the comedic theme of the story. See a preview and get more information on the official movie site www.moolathemovie.com.

In competition and for consideration in the comedy category, MOOLA is the story of best pals and business partners Steve and Harry, who’s failing company lands the ‘deal of a lifetime’ to bring their business and lives out of the dumps -- with the help of dairy cows in heat, greedy moguls and ultimately, the bonds of friendship.

Directed by Don Most, of Happy Days fame, in his first comedy feature. Don’s previous film THE LAST BEST SUNDAY premiered at the 1999 Seattle Film Festival and won “Best Feature” at the Telluride Indie Fest. “Directing these wonderful actors was like a master class in acting for me” states Don Most. “I’ve been an actor all my life, but directing has now given me a new perspective on the process and the relationship between director and actor. It has been a magical experience.” Don will be speaking on a director’s panel at the seminar series “Vision and Craft: The Art of Filmmaking” Saturday, April 21, 4:00 – 5:30pm at Edwards Island Cinema.

Comedic performances by leads William Mapother, in his first leading role, and Daniel Baldwin, a Newport Beach resident, allow the audience to both relate and empathize with the main characters, who are simply trying to manage “life” and the road of success. Based on true events, this film is a refreshing and sophisticated look at the American dream.

Produced by Deal Me In LLC in association with Freeze Frame Entertainment’s Lamese Williams (CONTRADICTIONS OF THE HEART) and Cary Glieberman (FORGET ABOUT IT), executive produced by Stan Holland (THE HAMILTONS) and co-produced by Renee Panichelli. Story by Stan Holland and Don Most, screenplay by Jeffrey Arbaugh. The film is repped by Rainstorm Entertainment. Tickets are available online at www.newportbeachfilmfest.com.
